Full Job Description

Job Summary

This position provides administrative assistance to the County Attorney’s Office.

Major Duties

Prepares state petitions and files for prosecution and pre-summons.
Prepares court dockets.
Prepares court orders.
Prepares declined and deferred forms.
Prepares and types a variety of letters and memoranda.
Files and indexes documents.
Answers telephones and greets visitors; provides information and assistance.
Scans and faxes documents.
Schedules depositions and mediations.
Prepares requests for medical records.
Attends meetings and conferences; prepares meeting minutes.
Attends court hearings.
Performs any other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
Knowledge of legal terminology, policies, and procedures.
Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
Skill in analyzing problems and developing and implementing solutions.
Skill in preparing clear and concise administrative reports.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
Must have at least one ( 1 ) year of work experience as a secretary or legal assistant.

Supplemental Information

Complexity/Scope of Work

The work consists of a variety of duties related to providing legal services to the County. The diversity of assignments contributes to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to prosecute and defend assigned civil and criminal cases and to provide legal counsel and advice to County departments.

Constantly

Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
Communicating with others to exchange information.
Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of assigned work.
Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.

Other Requirements/Information

Must possess a valid and current Texas Driver's License or a Texas Identification Card.
Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this job. Pre-employment drug/alcohol testing, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), and criminal background checks are required.
This position is not covered under Civil Service; however, all other Webb County policies apply.
