Full Job Description

JOB TITLE: Commercial Loan Underwriter I - III

DEPARTMENT: Loans/Finance

PAY TYPE: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Directly to the Credit Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

The Commercial Loan Underwriter (“CLU”) is responsible for producing complete and accurate Credit Memorandums for loan approval consideration and to assist the loan production team in managing the loan portfolios for Lexicon Bank (the “Company”).

KEY JOB FUNCTIONS:

· Underwrite complex credits and prepare loan presentations.

· Complete financial analysis and spreads on lending prospects.

· Properly identify all collateral using various investigative tools.

· Work together with other department employees to obtain collateral, credit history, and other reports to begin the due diligence process.

· Maintain the loan tickler system for efficient use of all its features.

· Complete required annual loan reviews monthly in compliance with the loan policy.

· Prepare decline/withdrawn memos and adverse action notices as applicable.

· Assist with audit requests and being a liaison.

· Assist in clearing any loan and deposit technical exceptions.

· Be cognizant of loan policy requirements along with all state and federal requirements regarding lending.

· Supports the Bank’s goals and values with methods and actions that are ethical and in full compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and the Bank’s policies.

· Help coordinate department projects.

· Complete all required compliance training.

· Identify risks and mitigate them to accomplish the Bank’s goals.

· Troubleshooting, escalating, and resolving department and client issues.

· Provide Executive Management and fellow employees with accurate information and reports upon request.

· Provide assistance and promote communication with all employees, clients, shareholders, and stakeholders.

· Adhere to all State and Federal Banking Regulations.

· Understand and comply with federal regulatory guidelines, including but not limited to BSA, GLBA, etc., as the regulations pertain to the employee’s job function.

· Participate in various committees and meetings as assigned.

· Be an active participant in employee functions and activities.

· Champion, within the organization, a commitment to honesty, integrity, and responsible corporate behavior.

· Other Duties as Assigned.

EDUCATION:

· High School Diploma

· Bachelor of Science degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting is recommended.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· 5+ years in loan underwriting/credit risk analysis experience recommended.

· Extensive working knowledge of commercial lending products and general guidelines.

· General knowledge and ability to work with financial analysis software systems.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills (draft letters/documents, take minutes, detail-oriented, use proper grammar/spelling/punctuation, ask questions, diplomatic and confident; able to communicate with all levels of management, excellent phone skills).

· Knowledge of banking and financial institution business operations, systems, and practices.

This position will require sitting, standing, and walking. May often include bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, turning/twisting, balancing, and reaching. May lift, carry, or push up to 5 pounds frequently (large binders) and up to 35 pounds occasionally (filled storage boxes). Will have repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers for keyboard/computer work. Sensory requirements are speech to communicate, vision to visually assess work, ability to read and write, and ordinary hearing abilities.
