SUMMARY
Performs work to keep machines, mechanical equipment, or the structure of the company’s facilities in repair. General duties will include or may involve installation and maintenance of the wiring, fuses, and other electrical components. Install and maintain machines in the plant. Troubleshooting and repairing electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment utilizing blueprints and schematics and use an array of tools and diagnostic devices. Assist in other projects that the maintenance group or plant may need such as pipe fitting; insulating; welding; machining; carpentry; installing, aligning, and balancing new equipment; and repairing buildings, floors, walls, stairs, etc.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Observes mechanical devices in operation and uses various test equipment and/or listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
Inspects and measures used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
Repairs or replaces defective parts. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices. Lubricates and cleans parts.
Starts devices to test their performance.
Sets up and operates band saw, end mill, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to fabricate and repair parts.
Repairs electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment.
Diagnoses replaces or repairs faulty electrical components of machines such as relays, starters, switches, motors, programmable logic controllers and positions sensing devices.
May repair transformers, generators, and electronic controllers on machine as qualified.
When working with complex electronic devices, may consult with engineers, engineering technicians, line installers and repairers, or industrial machinery mechanics.
Tests, measures, and diagnoses connections and controls and ensures the compatibility and safety of components.
Installs and connects switches, wiring, and outlets; Installs and connects wall, ceiling, pole or outdoor fixtures; Cuts and bends conduit to fit uniformly; Performs emergency electrical repair work as required; Performs other electrical installation, repair, and maintenance tasks as directed.
May assist and participate in obtaining materials and equipment from vendors;
Replaces shaft bearings on various process equipment.
Performs maintenance and repairs to machines and equipment such as conveyors, blowers, crushers, pumps and other processing equipment.
Familiar with hand tools such as conduit benders, screwdrivers, pliers, knives, hacksaws, and wire strippers, as well as power tools such as drills and saws.
Tests malfunctioning machinery and discusses malfunction with other maintenance workers to diagnose fault.
Documents all service actions utilizing written and electronic media. Escalation of extended outages, downtime, repeat calls and safety issues.
Will advise management whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
Communicates with department supervisors, Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Manager and corporate management in a professional manner
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Performs daily, weekly or monthly inspections of forklifts and fleet vehicles to insure safe operation.
Documents problems found on inspections and makes determination as to severity of condition. Makes decisions based on inspections, whether to take forklifts out of service immediately or to leave in service until repairs are performed.
Repairs and performs preventative maintenance on forklifts and fleet vehicles.
Performs various floor maintenance and facility housekeeping functions as needed including running a rider style floor scrubber.
PRE-PLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS and PPE
The pre-placement requirements described in this section are required for all persons in this job category. Any of the personal protective equipment (PPE) described in this section may need to be worn on occasion or on a regular basis.
The position requires a pre-placement physical exam with the purpose of comparing the employee's physical abilities to the specific physical requirements of the job. The pre-placement physical includes a pulmonary function test for the purpose of determining ability to wear a respirator and blood lead testing in order to comply with the Cal/OSHA required medical surveillance program. An initial blood-lead level at or under the recommended industrial limit of 10ug/dl of blood is required for placement.
Miscellaneous personal protective equipment is required to be worn for the job including; respirator, safety boots/shoes with 600 volts electrical hazard protection, leather gloves, safety glasses, face shield, hard-hat, and hearing protection. Some or all of the above-mentioned equipment may be required depending on the task being performed. PPE will be worn based on NEC and NFPA 70E standards, Cal/OSHA regulations, Corporate Energy Control Plan and corporate procedures.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Electrical Knowledge:
Thorough knowledge of the tools, processes, and terminology associated with electrical trades; thorough knowledge of the installation, maintenance and repair techniques associated with electrical trades; good knowledge of accident prevention (Lockout / Tagout, Arc Flash Safety) and safety precautions of the trade; familiarity with the applicable provisions of the state code and such local code as applies to the trade; ability to do a wide variety of electrical repair work with a high degree of skill; ability to work with high voltage electrical equipment; ability to troubleshoot electrical power systems; ability to use all types of electrical test equipment; ability to calculate electrical loads and wire sizes; ability to read blueprints and rough sketches; ability to use electrical drawings; ability to use the NEC book.
EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE
This position requires a strong background in industrial maintenance operations and understanding of electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and pneumatic systems as well as plumbing.
Employee will receive 24 hours initial HAZWOPER training prior to placement and 8 hours annual refresher training. Upon placement, employee will be trained in the specific functions of the job including electrical safety and lockout/tagout procedures. Training may also include forklift and/or cutting torch operation.

The position will occasionally require the use of a negative pressure respirator for up to the entire shift with occasional breaks.
