Full Job Description

Project Director (Mission Critical Construction)

The Project Director is responsible for providing executive leadership and oversight of large-scale mission critical construction projects and programs, including data centers, critical infrastructure, advanced technology facilities, telecommunications facilities, healthcare infrastructure, and other high-availability environments. This role is accountable for overall project success, client satisfaction, portfolio financial performance, operational excellence, risk mitigation, and team leadership.

The Project Director serves as the senior company representative to owners, executive stakeholders, consultants, and trade partners while providing strategic leadership to Project Managers, Senior Project Managers, and Superintendents.

Key Responsibilities

Executive Project Leadership

Provide executive oversight for mission critical construction projects from preconstruction through commissioning and turnover.
Establish project governance structures, reporting processes, and performance expectations.
Lead project strategy, execution planning, and operational decision-making.
Ensure alignment between project objectives and organizational goals.
Drive successful delivery of projects involving complex phasing, operational constraints, and critical uptime requirements.

Portfolio & Program Management

Oversee multiple mission critical projects and project teams simultaneously.
Monitor portfolio performance including schedule, cost, quality, safety, and client satisfaction metrics.
Allocate resources across projects to maximize operational efficiency.
Lead portfolio forecasting and executive reporting activities.

Financial Stewardship

Maintain accountability for portfolio revenue, profitability, and financial performance.
Review and approve project budgets, forecasts, contingency plans, and procurement strategies.
Monitor financial risk exposure and implement mitigation plans.
Lead executive reviews of project financial health.

Client Executive Management

Serve as the executive relationship manager for owners, developers, operators, and strategic clients.
Participate in business development efforts and pursuit strategies.
Support contract negotiations and major project pursuits.
Drive client satisfaction and long-term account growth.

Mission Critical Operations & Commissioning

Ensure projects meet mission critical performance requirements.
Oversee integrated commissioning strategies.
Coordinate with commissioning agents, facility operators, equipment vendors, and consultants.
Monitor readiness activities related to turnover and operational startup.
Ensure compliance with redundancy, resiliency, uptime, and operational reliability requirements.

Risk & Compliance Management

Lead enterprise-level project risk assessments.
Manage major contractual disputes, claims, and issue resolution.
Ensure compliance with owner standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
Evaluate procurement, labor, supply chain, and commissioning risks.

Leadership & Organizational Development

Provide leadership and mentorship to Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, and operational leaders.
Assist with recruiting, succession planning, and workforce development.
Build high-performing project teams capable of delivering increasingly complex work.
Promote a culture of accountability, safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Strategic Planning

Participate in annual business planning and growth initiatives.
Support market expansion efforts within mission critical sectors.
Identify process improvements and operational efficiencies.
Contribute to organizational strategy and operational excellence initiatives.

Additional Responsibilities

Represent the company in industry organizations, conferences, and client events.
Perform all other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred.
Minimum 15+ years of progressive commercial construction experience.
Minimum 5+ years leading large-scale mission critical, data center, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, or similar highly technical projects as a GC.
Experience managing projects exceeding $100M+ in value.
Proven success leading multiple project teams and large portfolios simultaneously.
Extensive knowledge of commissioning, MEP systems, critical infrastructure, and mission critical operations.
Strong financial acumen with responsibility for major P&L performance.
Exceptional executive communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
Advanced proficiency with project controls, scheduling, financial forecasting, and construction technology platforms.
Professional certifications preferred (PMP, CCM, DBIA, LEED AP, PE, or equivalent).
