Full Job Description

Job Summary

The court Bailiff will provide security for the courtroom and staff as well as courtroom related functions for arraignments and all municipal court proceedings.

Essential Job Functions

Maintain regular and prompt attendance; physically present to work.
Performs after hours work as required (nights and weekends)
Assist with emergency response as needed by city hall and local EOC.
Ensure that anyone entering the courtroom had been "screened" according to established protocols and/or policies.
Maintain order and security in the courtroom when court is in session, and notify any possible threat.
Assists Municipal Court Judge in documentation court business and other required paperwork.
Provide oral and printed information to persons attending court.
Confirms arraignment documentation list with municipal jail for judges review.
Works as a liaison with the police department law enforcement court security committee member.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

Must have High School diploma, or equivalent (GED)
Three (3) to five (5) years of related work experience to perform such job.
An honorably retired peace officer with certification/license.
Ability to obtain a court security certification as required by chapter 158 of the Texas Government Code before first year anniversary of filling the position.
Applicant must pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen at City's expense.
Applicant must have current valid Class "C" Driver's License and be insurable.
Must have high school diploma; or equivalent.
Must successfully complete Emergency Management and Incident Command Training within first three months of hire date.
Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.

Proficient oral, interpersonal and written communication.
Monitoring
Computer literacy.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
Occasional walking, standing, and stooping.
Occasional lifting, moving, or positioning objects up to 30lbs.
