Full Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides advanced practice nursing care to patients within Neurology Clinic, P.C., working collaboratively with attending neurologists. The NP is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and managing a wide range of neurological conditions including but not limited to multiple sclerosis and neuroimmunology, movement disorders, epilepsy, headache disorders, memory/cognitive disorders, and neuromuscular disorders. This role emphasizes patient-centered care, clinical excellence, and evidence-based practice.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Care

Conduct comprehensive neurological history and physical examinations for new and established patients.
Diagnose and develop individualized treatment plans for patients with neurological conditions.
Prescribe and manage pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies, including controlled substances per applicable state law.
Provide patient and family education regarding diagnosis, medication management, and disease progression.
Coordinate care with referring physicians, specialists, therapists, and community resources.
Respond to urgent patient calls, messages, and after-hours triage needs.

Documentation & Compliance

Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
Ensure all clinical activities comply with federal, state, and institutional regulations.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits.
Adhere to billing and coding standards for outpatient neurology encounters.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited program
Current, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the state of Tennessee
Current DEA registration and ability to prescribe controlled substances
Current BLS/ACLS certification
Minimum of 2 years of NP experience in neurology, internal medicine, or a related specialty
Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems

Ability to manage a high-volume outpatient schedule with efficiency and compassion

Professionalism, adaptability, and collaborative spirit

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Outpatient clinical setting; Monday–Friday schedule with no required overnight call
Occasional extended hours may be needed to accommodate patient volume or administrative duties
Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods; perform physical examinations
Visual and manual dexterity required for documentation and clinical procedures
