The Automotive Mechanic I plays a crucial role in maintaining and repairing the District’s fleet of vehicles and equipment, ensuring safety and reliability. This position involves a variety of tasks, including the repair, overhaul, and maintenance of diesel-powered automotive equipment, as well as performing small engine, brake, and AC system repairs. In addition, the Automotive Mechanic is responsible for vehicle prep, cleaning, detailing, and record-keeping to ensure vehicles are in top condition for daily use. The role requires collaboration with internal departments to coordinate travel schedules, including field trips and special events. As a key member of the Merced College Transportation Department, the Automotive Mechanic contributes to maintaining a safe and efficient fleet of vehicles and equipment for staff and students. General Description:
Under general supervision, to perform skill-level work in the repair, overhaul and maintenance of the District's gasoline-powered and diesel-powered automotive and groundskeeping equipment. This includes light trucks, medium-duty vehicles, tractors, lifts, skid steers, riding mowers, and small engines. The role emphasizes preventative maintenance and ensures that all equipment operates efficiently and safely.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education/Training/Experience

Graduation from high school or the equivalent AND

Two years of successful performance in automotive maintenance and repair.
License or Certificate:

Possess a Class C driver’s license

Possess or acquire automotive air conditioning certification (ASE) within first six months of employment
