Mission Advancement Specialist

Who We Are

For over 50 years, the Poverello Center has provided a necessary safety net for our community members living in hunger and homelessness. The organization’s mission is to provide food, shelter, help, and hope to all who ask. This is accomplished through advocacy, education, and a multitude of services to improve the health, well-being, and stability of people struggling with poverty and homelessness in Missoula.

We are dedicated to treating people with dignity and respect, regardless of their housing status, and envision a collaborative and supportive community in which everyone has a safe place to call home. We are committed to promoting and providing a range of services to improve the health and security of people experiencing homelessness in the Missoula community.

Who You Are

You are organized, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple projects at once. You are detail-oriented and love working collaboratively to benefit the entire organization. Whether you are coordinating an appeal, tracking donor engagement, or supporting a fundraising event, you approach the work with care and follow-through.

What You’ll Do

This role doesn't require a charismatic "closer." You'll never be asked to pitch a donor or make a cold call. Instead, you are responsible for ensuring that Poverello’s funding systems and initiatives run smoothly to support the organization’s mission.

Be the Poverello's systems person

Identify where the development efforts are losing time and fix it. Build templates, streamline workflows, and document processes so nothing lives only in your head.

Own the database

You're the keeper of the CRM. Enter gifts, reconcile records with finance, run queries, and make sure every contact record is spotless.

Build reports that tell the story

Pull and format fundraising snapshots for leadership. Spot trends, flag anomalies, and turn data into something a board member can actually understand.

Execute appeals

Coordinate email, mail, and social media appeals. Work with colleagues to draft appeals, generate contact lists, coordinate mailings, and leverage social media to ensure people have opportunities to support the Poverello.

Manage Social Media

Coordinate and maintain the Poverello's social media channels. Work with colleagues to gather stories, photos, and program updates that highlight the impact of our work. Develop and schedule content, promote events and fundraising campaigns, and help ensure the Poverello's online presence reflects our mission, values, and the people we serve.

Set the team up for success

Be the team’s accountability buddy. Manage the development plan, pull reports, conduct research, track fundraising assignments for team members, and assist with events.

Keep grants moving

Track deadlines across a portfolio of grants. Research opportunities, compile reports, gather program data from colleagues, and make sure submissions go out on time.

Handle acknowledgments & gift processing

Make sure every donor gets a timely, accurate thank-you letter. Process checks, manage online gift feeds, and keep the gift entry queue clear.

Qualifications

· Three years of relevant experience in executive assistance, accounting or development.

· Experience in a nonprofit is strongly preferred.

This position is full-time, based on 40 hours per week, and may require occasional evening or weekend availability for events. The position reports to the Executive Director and is based at the emergency shelter in Missoula, Montana.

The wage range for this position is $24/hr.

In addition, this position includes the following benefits:

Paid time off, which allows you to relax and recharge and/or empowers you to stay home and focus on your health without losing pay.
12 paid holidays throughout the year.
Full-time employees can choose from two different health insurance plans, as well as dental and vision policies. The Pov also offers a Traditional IRA plan, where the organization matches 3%.
