Full Job Description

Assistant Director of Operations – Law Firm

We are seeking a highly capable, detail-oriented Assistant Director of Operations to help lead the day-to-day operations of a busy and growing law firm.

This role serves as the firm’s assistant operational leader and works directly with ownership to ensure the business runs efficiently, profitably, and delivers a consistently high level of client service.

This is a high-impact leadership role requiring ownership of core systems, team performance, and key business metrics. The ideal candidate is proactive, highly organized, and takes responsibility for identifying issues, finding solutions and driving results.

Core Responsibilities

Operational Leadership & KPIs

Lead daily operations and ensure consistent execution across the firm
Track, report, and take ownership of key performance indicators (KPIs) across financials, team performance, and client experience
Identify issues, develop solutions, and ensure follow-through to resolution
Build, refine, and maintain systems that improve efficiency, organization, and profitability

Financial Operations

Conduct billing, accounts receivable, collections, and client accounts
Conduct accounting, payroll, and accounts payable
Monitor financial activity, identify discrepancies, and address risks proactively

HR & People Management

Lead recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and offboarding
Manage performance tracking, accountability, and team development
Provide coaching and ensure team members meet expectations

Client Experience & Case Support

Oversee client intake and communication systems
Support case management systems; monitor deadlines, filings, and workflow consistency

Compliance & Growth

Ensure compliance with internal processes
Support firm growth through improved systems, staffing, and operational planning

Qualifications

Direct experience required with payroll, accounts payable/receivable (AP/AR), billing, collections, and HR processes
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
High level of ownership, initiative, and follow-through
Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive projects to completion
Strong financial and operational acumen
Experience building and improving systems and workflows

Preferred (not required):

Experience in a law firm or other professional services environment
Bachelor’s degree in business or related field
MBA or advanced business training
