A. Primary Purpose of Job
Relief and Night Assistants must comply with and support Policies & Procedures, QT Purpose and Core Values, Standards of Store Operations, and all QT programs. Ensure fast, effective customer service and Store operation by meeting QT standards for customer service, training and supervision of assigned Store Team Members. Manage the clerks assigned to shifts as required by QT Policy and Procedures and Standards of Store Operations: Employee Support.
The Relief/Night Assistant Manager ensures that the shift team meets QT Standards of Store Operations and is operated according to Policies & Procedures and CD Guides.
B. List Major Functions for this position. (There should be a maximum of 10 functions)
- Customer Relations
- Ensure you and assigned Store Team Members comply with and support Policies & Procedures, QT Purpose and Core Values, Standards of Store Operations, and all QT programs. Ensure fast, effective customer service and Store operation by meeting QT standards for customer service, training and supervision of assigned Store Team Members. Manage the clerks assigned to shifts as required by QT Policy and Procedures and Standards of Store Operations: Employee Support.
- Operate the POS/FSC as needed by customer flow in a fast, efficient, courteous, and professional manner.
- Ensure personal and Store Team Member appearance is clean and professional looking as stated in Policies & Procedures.
- Ensure personal and assigned Store Team Member compliance with local, state, and federal laws pertaining to responsible retailing, anti-trust, anti-money laundering, ADA Compliance, Food Safety and EBT programs.
- Ensure customer safety by correcting situations that could be harmful (wet floors, icy sidewalks, oil spills, food safety issues, etc.) to customers and Store Team Members. If beyond your scope of responsibility report situations to the Store Manager or Store Supervisor.
- Ensure all accident packets are completed accurately and thoroughly.
- Merchandising
- Ensure you and your assigned Store Team Members comply with the CD Guides, Standards of Operations, merchandising; paying particular attention to alignments, pricing, signage, ordering, true ups, FFM Sheets, DAW completion, and QT program compliance as designed.
- Food Service and Food Safety
- Ensure you and Store Team Members comply with Standards of Store Operations: Food Service and Food Safety
- Ensure food safety and quality by following and expecting execution of established policies, procedures, CD guides, and practices for handling consumable items.
- Ensure you and Store Team Members prepare, cook, assemble, and present food safely, quickly, and efficiently, meeting all QT standards.
- Ensure you and Store Team Members follow code date procedures and ensure expired items are removed and discarded.
- Within your scope of responsibility, correct and communicate problems out of compliance with Food Safety standards.
- Ensure you and Store Team Members maintain food service areas and keep equipment clean, sanitary, and orderly at all times.
- Ensure Store Team compliance to Food Safety standards, providing timely feedback and correcting performance.
- Inspect food processes according to CD guides. Within your scope of responsibility, correct store operation problems. Communicate problems outside your scope of responsibility to your Store Manager to ensure proper execution and compliance to expectations.
- Execute product recalls timely as the need arises.
- Maintain required Manager Food Handler Permit as outlined in policies and procedures.
- Store Appearance
- Ensure you and assigned Store Team Members comply with Standards of Store Operations: Store Appearance
- Complete Shiftwalks, Upkeep and assigned DAW tasks in compliance with Standards of Store Operations and Career Development Task Guides.
- Train and follow-up on DAW tasks assigned to Clerks to ensure completion to QT Standards.
- Gasoline Program
- Ensure compliance to the Standards of Store Operations, paying precise attention to Division pricing directions and signage.
- If assigned, ensure gas competition pricing is transmitted per guidelines.
- Business Operations
- Ensure you and assigned Store Team Members comply with the Standards of Store Operations: Business Operations and Career Development Task Guides.
- Record all hours worked personally as well as by Store Team Members to comply with wage and hour laws.
- Within your scope of responsibility, correct Store operation problems. Communicate problems outside your scope of responsibility to your Store Manager.
- Through training, follow-up, and feedback, ensure each assigned Store Team Member successfully completes assigned DAW tasks and responsibilities.
- Report facility issues in the System.
- Employee Support
- Follow and ensure Store Team compliance with Policies, Standards of Store Operations: Employee Support.
- Treat each Store Team Member in a respectful and professional manner using effective management practices, communication, and teamwork.
- Ensure that Store Team Members treat each other in a respectful and professional manner.
- Give timely and honest feedback to Store Team Members verbally and through the Performance Evaluation Process to ensure the continual professional growth of assigned Store Team Members. Verbally communicate professional performance needs of Clerks to Store Manager.
- Actively participate in In-Store QuikStart for Part-Time Clerks, Store Team Meetings and one-on-ones to improve individual performance and the operation of the store.
- Attend Supervisor Quarterly Assistant Meetings.

- Requires range of body motion including:
- Hearing/continuous. Worker is required to listen carefully to customers' requests, gasoline paging system, and equipment sounds to be alerted to needs or problems.
- Seeing/continuous. Worker is required to recognize and address customers, vendors and employees by sight. Handling of numerous kinds of products and accurately observing number of items and correct pricing on each item is essential. Viewing gas customers at a distance from inside the store is required.
- Speaking/continuous. Worker is required to clearly and pleasantly communicate verbally with customers, vendors, and other employees.
- Bending-kneeling-squatting/frequent. Many job activities require bending, kneeling or squatting. (Picking up products to stock or clean areas necessary, helping customers with purchases.)
- Breathing (non-assisted)/continuous. All job activities require the ability to move quickly in, around, and out of the CheckStand area. Work area in CheckStand would not allow for breathing device that could be mobile throughout inside and outside of the store.
- Holding/continuous. Holding products, money, pencils (for paperwork) and tools for housekeeping tasks are a continuous need. Worker must be able to grasp and hold items as necessary to complete necessary job functions.
- Inserting/frequent. Worker will need to be able to insert money into correct slots in the cash register and other storage areas (safe, cash drawer). Products will also have to be placed in correct areas as designated by shelf alignments and direction by management.
- Lifting/occasional. 30-60lbs/Frequent: 30lbs or less. Worker will be required to lift up to 60 pounds in a product delivery tote to move items to correct storage areas. Bulk cases of pop, beer, and other items will be moved and stocked frequently to meet customer sales demands. Large deliveries are required to meet sales volume demands. Lifting individual packages will also be required to restock proper areas for sales display and Back Stock requirements.
- Standing/continuous. Worker is required to stand during entire working shift (up to 10+ hours). All CheckStand and store operations are structured to be done in a standing position.
- Walking/frequent. Worker is required to move around the store and outside the store to perform cleaning and restocking duties to meet customer demands. Rapid pace is common for these needs to be met successfully.
- Concentrating/continuous. Worker is required to keep track of thousands of dollars in cash and inventory and respond quickly and accurately to all customer demands. Rapid pace of work requires strong ability to maintain concentration on several items at a time and to avoid losing track of active processes.
- Conceptualizing/frequent. Worker is required to listen or read instructions and put into practice in the operation of the store. Display requirements and proper stock levels are a must to meet customer sales demands and be in compliance with company directives.
- Learning/frequent. Worker is required to quickly comprehend existing and new programs to improve customer satisfaction and store operations. Training is a continuous process that starts on the first day of employment and never ends.
- Reasoning/frequent. Worker is required to understand requests and comments from customers, vendors, and employees and then decide on the proper action to take. Understanding the appropriate steps to proceed on in dealing with customer relations and store operations are critical and must be accurately discerned as they are brought to the worker's attention.
- Solving/frequent. Worker is required to properly satisfy customer requests and problems along with ascertaining corrective procedures for store operation problems. The ability to correctly solve problems is more critical as the worker moves up to higher-level management positions.
- Thinking/continuous. Worker is required to take verbal and written direction and to surmise how these specifically apply to his/her work environment. Feedback from the worker to a subordinate and superior is essential to properly process compliance directives from management. Forming judgments concerning these procedures is necessary to give this feedback.
- Exposure/occasional. Worker required to work outside and may be exposed to extreme heat or cold. Worker required to work in the kitchen and freezers where they would be exposed to heat or cold.
- Push and pull/occasional. Moving items on dolly or carts.
- Climbing/frequent. Getting product off shelves, cleaning top of gas pumps, changing gas prices.
- Stepping/frequent. Need to step up and down to get into/out of check stand.
