StatusAssistant Boutique Manager Position Description

The Dance Boutique is The Rock School for Dance Education’s on-site retail store, serving students, families, and the broader Philadelphia dance community. The boutique provides essential dancewear, footwear, and accessories that support the School’s professional training programs while also welcoming dancers from across the region. Through its curated merchandise and knowledgeable staff, The Dance Boutique extends The Rock School’s mission beyond the classroom by promoting excellence in dance preparation, performance, and community engagement.

Position Summary

The Assistant Boutique Manager plays a key role in the daily operations of The Dance Boutique. This part-time position supports and, at times, independently oversees all aspects of retail management, including sales, customer service, inventory control, staff supervision, and online store operations through Shopify. The Assistant Manager works closely with the Boutique Manager and Managing Director to ensure efficient operations, exceptional customer experiences, and alignment with The Rock School’s retail and brand standards.

Schedule and Compensation

Part-time position (minimum 20 hours weekly)
Salary: Starting at $20-22/hour
Must be available to work some holidays, weekends, and evenings
Reliable transportation is required for commuting between work locations

Duties and Responsibilities

Oversee daily retail operations in collaboration with the Boutique Manager and Managing Director
Deliver excellent customer service to all guests, students, and community members
Assist with hiring, training, and supervision of boutique staff
Manage inventory levels, restocking, shipping, and vendor and client orders
Maintain accurate product listings and oversee online sales through Shopify
Prepare for sales campaigns and analyze special promotions or offers
Ensure compliance with store policies, procedures, and merchandising standards
Support financial tracking, sales reporting, and cash handling
Coordinate with Rock School departments to align merchandise with class, uniform, and performance needs
Assist in planning and executing boutique events or sales promotions
Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing retail environment
Lift, move, and unpack boxes up to 50 lbs and perform standard retail tasks as needed

Required Qualifications:

Minimum 4 years of experience in retail or boutique management, including staff supervision and operations oversight
Proven hands-on experience with Shopify or comparable e-commerce platforms
Strong understanding of retail policies, merchandising, and customer service best practices
Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills
Demonstrated ability to manage inventory, vendor relations, and POS systems
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
Reliable transportation for commuting between work locations
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical retail tasks
Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a professional, customer-focused demeanor

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in business, retail management, marketing, or a related field
Experience in dancewear, performing arts retail, or familiarity with ballet and dance operations is highly desirable
Background in visual merchandising or retail display design
Experience managing or training small teams
Comfort with social media and marketing tools to support store promotions and outreach
Experience with inventory tracking systems, vendor ordering, and seasonal forecasting
