We are seeking an experienced and motivated Roofer to play a key role in protecting and preserving the University’s facilities by delivering high‑quality, responsive service across campus building envelopes. This position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of roofing systems and above‑ and below‑grade waterproofing, ensuring campus buildings remain safe, durable, and weather‑resilient.
You will oversee and support a team of 2–5 skilled employees, including trades workers, maintenance mechanics, and helpers. You will coordinate daily work activities, promote safe work practices, and ensure projects are completed efficiently and to standard. Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
- Lead a small crew in inspecting, maintaining, and repairing roofs, ensuring quality work across campus
- Perform journeyman-level tasks, including patching and replacing roofs using hot or cold methods, and ensure that work meets the required standards
- Execute preventive maintenance and repairs for the campus’s building envelope, including all roofs and waterproofing above and below grade
- Repair or replace roofing systems such as single-ply, BUR, modified bitumen, metal, slate, and shingle roofing, using the appropriate tools and materials
- Perform above and below grade waterproofing, including resealing windows, repairing control joints, and applying waterproofing membranes
- Review plans, estimates, and on-site conditions, making necessary adjustments to ensure project success
- Develop and prioritize work assignments, coordinating tasks with co-workers and other shops as needed
- Communicate technical and safety information to crew members, ensuring the correct assembly, demolition, and waste disposal practices
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, contractors, vendors, and other university personnel to ensure effective project completion
- Lift and transport materials weighing up to 60 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations and perform a wide range of physically demanding tasks in varied outdoor environments, ensuring safe handling practices and maintaining productivity in varying weather and terrain conditions.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and the general public, and follow verbal and written instructions related to work assignments and operational needs.
