Full Job Description

Job Overview
We're a boutique financial services firm led by a Fractional CFO. We work mostly with early and growth-stage startups making $1MM - $20MM across B2B SaaS, fintech, edtech, healthtech, and professional services. Our specialty is building clear, investor-ready financial models and reports that help founders understand their business, make better decisions, and communicate effectively with investors.

About the Work

We are hiring a Strategic Finance and Client Delivery Associate to help own recurring client delivery and technical model-building across our portfolio. You will work directly with Mariya, FounderFirst’s CEO, and support monthly financial reporting, forecast builds, model updates, variance analysis, client communications, and process improvement.

This is a high-ownership, modeling-first role for someone technically strong, pressure-tested, detail-oriented, and hungry to learn startup finance quickly. You should be comfortable building models from scratch, working through messy data, handling tight deadlines, supporting founders, and operating in ambiguity.

This is not a traditional accounting, bookkeeping, AP/AR, tax, or controller-type role.

The Role

This is a modeling-first role.

Specifically, you'll:

Build, from scratch, financial models for our clients
3-statement models (P&L, BS, CF)
Driver-based forecasts (monthly, quarterly, annual)
Scenario & sensitivity models
Budget vs. actuals with variance analysis
Valuation models (DCF, LBO, multiples-based)
Unit economics & cohort analysis (CAC, LTV, payback, margin mix)
Run complex scenario planning analyses for strategic decisions (e.g. pricing)
Create investor-ready reports with clear logic, visualizations, and storytelling
Clean and structure messy inputs from tools like Stripe, QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite, Gusto, HubSpot, Salesforce, Chartmogul, and others
Use automation and AI tools (e.g. Claude, Zapier, Make, Airtable, n8n) to improve efficiency and reduce manual work
Partner directly with our internal Fractional CFO on client calls, founder discussions, and model walkthroughs
Work directly 1:1 with founders on forecasting, runway, cash flow, reporting, and strategic finance questions
Assist with pitch deck metrics, M&A prep, fundraising deliverables, and board/investor reporting
Understand how financial reporting impacts forecasting, cash flow, and strategic decision-making
Manage multiple client workflows and deadlines simultaneously
Draft concise variance commentary and client-ready financial summaries

About You

You likely come from:

3–5 years in Investment Banking, Private Equity, Venture Capital, Transaction Advisory, Valuation, Strategic Finance, startup FP&A, and/or founder-facing finance consulting environments

and/or

High-performing FP&A at a VC-backed startup ($5M–$50M revenue)

Strong plus if you have:

Experience at a fractional CFO firm, strategic finance consultancy, or founder-facing finance environment
Experience working directly with startup founders
Exposure to fundraising, board reporting, or M&A processes

You should also have:

Strong financial modeling skills and ability to build models from scratch
Comfort working through messy or incomplete data
Plenty of scenario planning experience
Expert-level Excel / Google Sheets skills, including nested formulas, modular logic, dynamic toggles, and error-proof design
Familiarity with BI tools (Power BI, Looker, Tableau, LiveFlow, FathomHQ, Coefficient, etc.)
Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with founders in a 1:1 setting
Ability to explain financial concepts clearly in writing and conversation
Comfort operating in ambiguity and under pressure
Strong attention to detail and ownership mentality
Availability for calls throughout the US work week

Not a Fit If:

You are looking for a traditional accounting, bookkeeping, AP/AR, tax, audit, or controller-type role
You rely heavily on templates or pre-built modeling tools
You have only maintained existing FP&A files and have never built a model from a blank workbook
You want to “advise” but not execute
You are running your own agency, CFO firm, or consulting company juggling multiple clients
You need highly structured corporate processes to operate effectively
You are unavailable during US business hours

Compensation

Full-Time: $70,000 – $80,000 base (depending on experience)
Full-time, contract-to-hire position that will begin on a 1099 independent contractor basis.
No visa sponsorship available at this time

Interview Process

Technical Assignment (async) All qualified candidates will be sent a short technical assignment - a 3-statement model built from scratch.
30-Min Personal Fit Interview If the assignment meets expectations, you'll have a 30-minute call with the hiring lead (our CFO).
Live Model Walkthrough - finalists will walk through a past model live.

We also reserve the right to ask asynchronous clarifying questions during the process if needed.
