The primary duty of the Department Head is supporting classroom teachers in their department. We are currently looking for individuals in our Toddler department. They will support the classroom teachers with teaching students according to the established educational curriculum of LeafSpring School.
Oversees personnel, curriculum, materials, management, and general supervision of department. Responsible for the daily supervision and management of a class of 10 to 16 children, between the ages of 1 1/2 and 24 months.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans, implements, and supervises the daily classroom programs and activities in accordance with the philosophy of LeafSpring School, regulatory and accrediting bodies.
- Directs the activities of primary care teachers, multi-classroom teachers, aides, and volunteers, providing mentoring, coaching and guidance as needed.
- Supervises direct reports. Oversees and supervises all aspects of classroom management, e.g., managing direct reports, ensuring curriculum integrity, etc.
- Creates and conducts performance reviews for direct reports.
- Assists the Program Director and Curriculum Coordinator in assessing needs and supports with trainings, projects, coaching and observations as requested.
- Assists with onboarding and recruiting new staff, including but not limited to classroom interviews and new hire training as directed.
- Must be willing to complete the Virginia Preservice Training (10-hr training).
THE CANDIDATE MUST POSSESS THE FOLLOWING:
- Must possess a love for children and an ability to relate well with them, their families, and teachers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A positive attitude and work ethic – must be a team player!
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- 6+ months of programmatic experience, working in a licensed and/or accredited child care facility required.
- Must be 18 years of age
- A love for children and an ability to relate well with them, their families, and teachers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A positive attitude and work ethic – must be a team player!
Must have at least one of the following:
- Baccalaureate degree in early childhood education, child development, education, or another related field and a minimum of two(2) years’ experience teaching young children in a group setting.
- Baccalaureate degree in a non-related field with twelve (12) credits (18 or more preferred) in early childhood education, child development, education, or other related field and a minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching young children in a group setting.
- Associate degree in early childhood education, child development, education, or other related field and a minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching young children in a group setting.
- Associate degree, or equivalent coursework, in any field with at least twelve (12) hours in early education,
- education or related coursework and a minimum of four (4) years of experience teaching young children in a group setting.
- CDA certificate in early childhood education with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience teaching young children in a group setting.
- Minimum of at least 2 years of programmatic experience.
- Minimum of at least one (1) year of experience in a NAEYC or Cognia accredited program preferred.
- Valid adult, child, and infant CPR, AED, and Basic First aid certification or willing to obtain certification.
