SUMMARY OF MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
The Community Aide Worker ensures the well-being of clients in the day program and/or group home and promotes their development. A key component of this job is to assist clients in their physical, social, emotional, and daily life skills development. This increases their independence and allows them to function appropriately in the community by assisting individuals to adopt healthy lifestyle behaviors. The Community Aide worker provides support to adults in care. The services provided include crisis intervention, behavior management, and life skills training, whether on a one-to-one basis or in a group environment. The Community Aide Worker plans, develops, implements and evaluates recreational, social and/or educational activities for clients served by the organization. The Worker strives to create a fun and enjoyable atmosphere in order to encourage client participation in programs.
DUTIES:
- Aids clients in the /program and in the community to allow them to function more safely and independently. Facilitates physical, recreational, social and educational activities. Provides clients with a positive role model.
- Identifies social, economic, recreational and educational services in the community that will meet clients’ needs, Maintains liaison with other agencies, professionals, government officials and the community.
- Recognizes potential crisis situations, analyzes such situations accurately, develops strategies to deal with such situations, and informs the Supervisor and Manager when such incidents arise.
- Recognizes potential emergency situations, analyzes situations accurately, and develops strategies to deal with such situations i.e., dispensing medication, dealing with client’s aggressive behavior to ensure no harm comes to the client, staff and/or the public.
- Assists case management team in identifying potential problems. Provides input to counselors and other professionals with regard to the development of client program plans.
- Monitors clients’ well-being. Assists clients with daily life skills and/or behavior management training. Assists clients with basic cooking, etc. Assists clients in attending appointments when necessary.
- Monitors clients’ progress and well-being and assists case management team in evaluating the effectiveness of planned counseling and support. Provides suggestions for the modification of clients’ program plans.
- Provides emotional support and feedback to clients (and their families and friends where concerned).
- Acts as a positive role model for clients, providing life skills training and behavior management. Depending on client type, may assist with hygiene, grooming, dispensing and administering medication.
- Maintains wither written and/or verbal reports regarding clients’ daily activities and progress. Ensures that all required documentation is complete and accurate.
- Participates in group planning and helps develop individual activity plans which focus on the special needs of each client served by the home/program.
- Reviews and evaluates clients’ progress and makes adjustments to programs as required. Provides feedback and support to fellow staff and clients.
- Encourages and facilitates the participation of individuals in the program. Creates a fun and enjoyable atmosphere in order to enhance the program’s appeal to clients.
- Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of new trends in activities programming.
- provides lay counseling support and life skills training to clients.
- Provides liaison with other agencies and the community. Fosters positive working relationships with staff members.
- Provides input to management with regard to the development of the program and participates in program evaluations.
- Operates office equipment such as: personal computers, photocopiers, facsimile machines, printers and reports or arranges for equipment repairs.
- Answer phone and/or in-person inquiries and routes to appropriate staff member if required. Responds to routine queries with regard to the organization and services provided.
- Assists clients in transportation to and/or from appointments and meetings.
- Assists clients with personal hygiene and grooming i.e., bathing, oral hygiene, and toileting.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of internal fire regulations and procedures, and other emergency procedures. Ensures health and safety standards are maintained.
- Assures that all medication is administered, following the current procedures.
- Remain awake/no sleeping during graveyard shifts.
- Performs other related duties as required.
POSITION EXPECTATIONS:
- Staff is expected to consistently engage clients in daily milieu (groups and individual sessions, recreational activities, independent living activities, etc.)
- Staff is expected to complete all required Relias Trainings with in the allotted time frame assigned by supervisor.
- Staff is expected to complete services plan within time frame including all required signatures.
- Staff is expected to complete assessments and service plan prior to client’s admission.
- Staff is expected to complete all notes within 24 hours of service completion.
- Staff is expected to complete all post outcome survey calls within 14 days of due date.
- Staff is expected to receive favorable scores on direct client services section of customer surveys Likert scale.
- Staff is expected to follow medical charting and protocol, daily notes, and service plans.
- Staff will be expected to QA their individual charts to ensure all charting protocol and guidelines have been met including signatures, dates, service plan signatures and daily services when applicable.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or its equivalent. Associate or higher degree preferred
- Knowledge of the requirements for working with mentally ill individuals and those with a history of substance use.
- Adhere to company dress code maintaining a professional appearance at all times.
- Must maintain valid liability insurance and driver’s license as required by the state of Ca. and a good driving record in order to be insured on the agency’s insurance policy
- Certified in CPR and First Aid.

DRESS CODE:
- Business Casual Attire-all clothing must be clean and free of holes. Acceptable attire: collar shirts, blouses, trousers/slacks, skirts/dresses that are an appropriate length. No tank tops, strapless, thinly strapped tops, shorts or dresses that are not an appropriate length, clothing that shows bare midriffs or cleavage are not permitted during work hours.
- No ripped jeans or athletic wear including yoga pants.
- Closed toed shoes, Tennis Shoes, and Ankle Strapped Sandals are acceptable. No flip flops.
- No Jewelry that could pose a hazard. Visible jewelry that can be seen through or under clothing and facial jewelry are not permitted during work hours.
- Clothes must be clean and professional and avoiding anything that could make others uncomfortable such or profanity or clothing that is too revealing.
- Poor personal hygiene is not acceptable. Perfume, cologne and after shave should be used moderately.
- Visible tattoos that are offensive must be covered up during work hours
