The Instructional Coach is a critical lever in improving student achievement. The role of the coach is to help reflect on instruction and collaborate with teachers, encourage positive change in the school culture, and promote the use of data analysis to inform teaching practice. The coach will also provide instructional support to both teachers and principals and perform related work as required.
Please note: This role requires driving, therefore a "clean driving record" is critical.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, REQUIREMENTS AND PREREQUISITES

Bachelor’s degree in education or related field, Masters preferred.

Advanced computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office and Office 365 preferred.

Ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of people in person, by phone, and in writing.

Ability to maintain records, prepare reports and complete required paperwork according to agency requirements on a timely basis.

Valid Virginia Drivers’ License and proof of insurance.
-
Satisfactory Driving Record in accordance with Driver Requirements policy.

Ability to drive agency vehicles or personal vehicle as needed.

Ability to travel as required.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00AM-4:00PM.

Reckless driving, including speeding 20mph or more over the posted speed limit.

Driving on a suspended or revoked license

Driving a commercial motor vehicle while disqualified, under the influence, with a blood alcohol level of .04 or higher, refusing a blood/breath test, or violating an out-of-service order.

Injuring a person while racing - felony.

Failure to stop at the scene of a crash where there is injury, death, or property damage of $1000 or more.

Emergency vehicle violation - death.

Vehicular assault or willful stopping, impeding, or damaging a vehicle.

Blocking access to the service facility.

Attempting to elude police.

Operating an unsafe vehicle.

Vulnerable Road User – Death.

Must not have any of the following violations within the last 3 years:

Passing a stopped school bus.

Careless driving.

Three or more minor moving violations within the last three years.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - May be required to perform any of the following duties:

Provides leadership and coordination to ensure curriculum instruction aligns with Minnick initiatives and recognized best instructional practices.

Collects, analyzes, and interprets data to measure curriculum effectiveness and inform instructional decisions.
-
Stays current on educational research, instructional trends, best practices, and state education regulations.
-
Provides instructional leadership and training focused on curriculum implementation, including vertical alignment of SOLs, Minnick Pacing Guides, and lesson planning formats.

Collaborates with teachers individually and in teams through co-planning, coaching, and instructional support.
-
Supports teachers in analyzing data and developing strategies to improve student achievement.
-
Promotes and supports the use of research-based instructional strategies, including differentiated instruction for diverse learners.
-
Conducts non-evaluative classroom observations to provide feedback and support instructional improvement.
-
Models evidence-based instructional strategies to enhance teaching and learning.
-
Supports teacher understanding and implementation of the Virginia Standards of Learning.
-
Assists teachers with instructional resources, materials, and tools to support classroom instruction.
-
Plans and delivers professional development related to instructional strategies, curriculum initiatives, and assessment practices.
-
Provides ongoing coaching and feedback to strengthen instructional practice.
-
Collaborates with leadership and staff to review instructional time use and support effective “bell-to-bell” instruction in core subjects.

Assists principals, as requested or assigned, with the review of lesson plans and provides feedback to the principal or teacher.

Builds strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other coaches
-
Maintains and submits weekly coaching logs and required documentation to the Coordinator of Instruction.

Promotes and supports effective use of instructional technology.

Serves as the School Testing Coordinator (STC).
