PT Role: Saturday - Sunday 4pm - 12am
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Medical Support Staff plays a vital role in providing essential medical care and support to clients individuals who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The primary focus of this position is to ensure the safety and well-being of clients during their stay at the sobering center, and provide appropriate care as needed.
- Observe and assess clients upon admission to the sobering center for signs of intoxication and withdrawal symptoms.
- Ensure that the facility has clean and comfortable beds ready for incoming clients.
- Actively engages in collaborative efforts with fellow staff members to ensure that clients receive the necessary support they require.
- Monitor medication administration to clients as prescribed by healthcare professionals. Ensure proper documentation and adherence to medication schedules, and monitor any side effects or reactions.
- Conduct regular wellness checks and monitor vital signs to ensure the clients' medical conditions remain stable throughout their stay.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records and progress notes.
- Ensuring the cleanliness and hygiene of the facility, including high surface areas.
- Maintain high ethical standards in all aspects of the role. Adhere to professional codes of conduct, respect client confidentiality, and prioritize the well-being and rights of clients at all times.
- Prepare meals and snacks for clients.
- Be prepared to respond to crisis situations promptly and effectively, providing immediate assistance and access to appropriate resources when needed.
- Responsible for promptly notifying the manager of any work orders that need to be submitted or supplies that need to be ordered.
- Transports clients in the agency-provided vehicle for appointments as required.
- Conducts UA testing for clients as needed.
- Responsible for attending staff meetings, ensuring timely completion of training, and accurately completing timecards.
- Perform related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

- High School Diploma or equivalent: A minimum educational requirement to demonstrate basic literacy and communication skills.
- Must hold a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant), MA (Medical Assistant), or EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) certification.
- Excellent communication skills: Ability to effectively communicate with shelter residents, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
- Crisis intervention skills: Capacity to handle crisis situations and de-escalate conflicts.
- Empathy and compassion: Demonstrating genuine care and understanding for individuals experiencing homelessness.
- Ability to work in a team: Collaboration and cooperation with other shelter staff, volunteers, and external agencies.
- Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Google)
Required Qualifications:
Employment Eligibility Verification:
- Must provide documentation to establish identity and employment eligibility in compliance with legal requirements. This may include a U.S. passport, Permanent Resident Card, or other acceptable forms of identification.
Negative Tuberculosis Test:
- Must provide documentation of a recent negative tuberculosis (TB) test result to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
Background Screening:
- Successful completion of a comprehensive background screening, which may include criminal record checks, employment history verification, and reference checks.
Pre-Employment Drug Screening:
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a drug-free workplace. A negative drug test result is required.
Driving Skills:
- Must meet the requirements set by our auto insurance carrier.
Insurance Coverage:
- Must be able to qualify for Good Samaritan Shelter insurance coverage, which may include meeting specific criteria related to driving record, insurance claims history, and other factors.
Personal Insurance Coverage:
- Must have personal insurance coverage that meets the requirements set by the employer.

In a stabilization center, the work environment revolves around providing a safe and compassionate space for individuals in need of sobering up from alcohol or drugs. The staff employs a client-centered approach, emphasizing empathy and non-judgmental care. With round-the-clock operation, team collaboration is crucial among staff.De-escalation skills are essential as clients may arrive in vulnerable and agitated states. Maintaining confidentiality and privacy is paramount to respect the clients' personal information and circumstances. The staff diligently ensures cleanliness and hygiene within the facility. Ongoing training and support are provided to equip staff with the necessary skills to handle unique challenges and situations that arise when working with intoxicated individuals. Ultimately, the work environment at a sobering center focuses on offering immediate assistance, fostering safety, and providing appropriate referrals for further support.
