Full Job Description

Urban37, Inc. is growing, and we're looking to add an experienced Plan Check Engineer to our team!

This is a full-time, fully remote position supporting a variety of municipal clients throughout California. The selected candidate will perform structural plan reviews for cities and agencies that partner with Urban37, helping ensure projects meet applicable code requirements while supporting efficient project delivery.

At Urban37, we believe great plan review is about more than identifying corrections. It's about communication, consistency, partnership, and providing exceptional service to our clients and the communities they serve.

What You'll Do

Perform structural plan reviews for residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use construction projects.
Review construction documents for compliance with applicable California Building Codes, referenced standards, and engineering requirements.
Prepare clear, organized, and code-supported correction letters.
Interpret and apply structural engineering principles, building codes, and industry standards with consistency and sound judgment.
Coordinate with applicants, design professionals, City staff, and internal team members to support efficient review cycles.
Provide technical guidance and code interpretations related to structural design and construction.
Maintain timely turnaround times while delivering high-quality plan review services.

Qualifications

Active California Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) license required.
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related field.
Experience working for an engineering design firm, municipal agency, or third-party consulting firm performing structural plan review or structural design services.
Strong knowledge of California Building Codes, structural design principles, and applicable engineering standards.
Experience interpreting and applying building codes, engineering regulations, and construction documents.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently while remaining highly responsive, collaborative, and service-oriented.
Experience with Bluebeam and electronic plan review software preferred.
ICC Plans Examiner certification is highly desirable but not required.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Candidates must reside in California (preferred) or Washington.
