Position Description: Butcher Apprentice (consisting of, but not limited to description below)
- Cutting Room:
- Assisting in the process of breaking down beef carcasses into retail cuts
- Assisting in custom beef processing to customer specifications
- Using and maintaining equipment such as meat grinders, bandsaws, patty machines, vacuum stuffers and knives
- Assisting in the production of bologna processing/specialty and smoked products
- Breaking down and cleaning/sanitizing equipment after use.
- Kill Floor:
- Learning and assisting with various stages of the slaughtering process including: Preparation of kill floor, Stunning/sticking, skinning, gutting, splitting, trimming, and cleanup of kill floor.
- Retail Store:
- Work store, waiting on customers 1-3 days a week after meat production is completed.
- Full time employees must work at least two Saturdays per month, from 7:30AM - Noon.
- Physical Requirements:
- Able to stand for extended periods of time
- Must be able to lift 80lbs from floor to chest
- Misc.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must be detail oriented.
- 3-4 days/week during initial training period, then 35-45 hours per week on a regular basis
- Pay will be determined by current skills and past work experience
- No butchering experience needed; on-the-job training provided
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Start work at 7AM Monday - Friday.
Summary
As a Butcher Apprentice, you will be integral to our meat production team, reporting to the Head Butcher. Your primary responsibilities will include food handling, meat cutting, and packaging, ensuring adherence to food safety and USDA standards. Utilizing knife and cutlery skills, you will assist in the production of high-quality meat products. Butcher Apprentice Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in the food industry, butchering or agriculture is a plus
- Strong knife skills and experience in meat cutting techniques
- Knowledge of food safety and handling practices
- Excellent customer service skills to assist and engage with clients
- Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Familiarity with food production processes is a plus
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $19.00 per hour
