Position Summary
The Dental Home Director is an experienced Dental Provider who provides leadership and supervision to the clinical dental staff at KinderSmile Community Oral Health Center in Trenton.
As Dental Home Director (DHD) at a KinderSmile Community Oral Health Center (KSCOHC) Dental Home, your role is dedicated to advancing the organization's mission of delivering high-quality oral health care and education to underserved children, perinatal women, and families. You are an experienced Dental Provider who provides leadership and oversight of the Dental Home and its staff, delivering full-spectrum dental treatment and oral health education, while serving on the Executive Leadership Team to reinforce clinical standards, patient scheduling, staffing, and regulatory compliance—including OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control.
Working under the direction of the CEO and COO, you are an experienced, reliable, and detail-oriented self-starter with excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills and a passion for public health dentistry and community service. You are friendly, punctual, have an affinity for working with children, and are committed to balancing the clinical and administrative responsibilities of this role.
KinderSmile Foundation dental providers and staff are expected to adhere to the highest level of ethical conduct, responsibility, and integrity when caring for our patients and community, understanding the trust placed in us to prioritize their health and wellbeing.
This position requires a valid NJ Dentist license, current malpractice liability insurance and BLS or CPR certification. A DEA license and CDS license are preferred.
The annual salary range for this position is $156,000-$176,000, depending on experience and qualifications.

Position Details
The full-time (40 hours a week) Dental Home Director's schedule will include a half day for administrative and managerial responsibilities.
The Dental Home Director may be scheduled to work off-site on specified days or half-days as part of the KinderSmile Oral Health Program (KSOHP). Off-site visits require flexibility as some may begin earlier than 9am. School visits may follow school day hours.

What You’ll Do:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Dental Home Director provides daily clinical and operational leadership of an assigned KinderSmile Community Oral Health Center Dental Home. Serving as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, this role is key to delivering high-quality patient care, supporting staff development, and maintaining the fiduciary and regulatory integrity of the Dental Home.
- Core Duty 1: Clinical Leadership & Patient Care: Provide direction and supervision of dental services, delivering full-spectrum diagnostic, preventive, and comprehensive dentistry, and mentoring providers in KinderSmile Foundation's philosophy of Education, Intervention, and Prevention.
- Core Duty 2: Dental Home Operations & Fiduciary Oversight: Oversee the Dental Home's fiduciary responsibility, including adherence to the monthly clinical and administrative supply budget, equipment ordering and repair, expense management, and monthly financial review with the Chief Operating Officer.
- Core Duty 3: Scheduling, Chart Audits & Billing Integrity: Ensure proper scheduling of appointment lengths, timely emergency, restorative, and recall appointments, and inter-referrals; conduct weekly chart audits and oversee insurance submissions, CDT coding, and billing integrity in coordination with Front Desk Patient Coordinators.
- Core Duty 4: Staffing & Schedule Management: Maintain and update Dental Home staff work schedules, approve time-off requests, verify Eaglesoft clock-in/out records, and ensure proper coverage and cross-training across dental auxiliaries.
- Core Duty 5: Staff Development & Mentorship: Provide supervision, leadership, and mentorship to Dental Home employees and volunteers; conduct 90-day and annual performance evaluations, and coordinate with HR and Volunteer Program Coordinators on training, performance, and disciplinary matters.
- Core Duty 6: Facility, Infection Control & Compliance Oversight: Ensure OSHA and infection control protocols are completed correctly and on schedule, maintain a clean and organized Dental Home, and coordinate with the Director of Compliance on quarterly equipment and hazard checks.
- Core Duty 7: Program Integration & Community Engagement: Integrate the KinderSmile Oral Health Program (KSOHP), Perinatal Health and Wellness Program (PHWP), and volunteer programs (CSLP/GBAS) into the Dental Home, participating in offsite visits and linking patients to ongoing recall and follow-up care.
- Core Duty 8: Leadership Collaboration & Reporting: Serve as an active member of the Executive Leadership Team and attend monthly Board meetings; submit a monthly Dental Home Board Report to the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Assistant following the KSF template.
Qualifications

Education
- Graduation from a licensed dental school.
Credentials
- Current and valid NJ Dentist license.
- Current malpractice liability insurance, accepted by KinderSmile Foundation's corporate liability insurance (MEDPRO)
- Current BLS or CPR certification.
- Valid DEA and CDS licenses (preferred).
Skills and Proficiencies
- Previous experience in a dental office working with patients of all ages.

Physical Requirement
The physical requirements for a Dental Provider role typically include the ability to stand or sit for extended periods, as the job often involves long hours of working with patients in a dental chair. Dentists must possess fine motor skills and manual dexterity to perform precise, delicate tasks while using various dental tools and instruments. They may also need to bend, reach, and twist in order to access different areas of a patient's mouth, requiring good flexibility and overall physical fitness. Additionally, Dental Providers should have the strength and stamina to assist patients in and out of the dental chair, as well as the ability to move and handle dental equipment as needed. Good vision and hand-eye coordination are essential for performing accurate and effective dental treatments. Dental Providers must also be able to tolerate exposure to various noises from dental equipment and maintain focus in a potentially noisy work environment.
