Job Summary
Join a rapidly expanding engineering and construction firm at an exciting stage of growth, where innovation meets opportunity. We are seeking an experienced, dynamic, and strategic Director of Accounting and Finance to lead our financial operations with energy, vision, and precision. This pivotal role involves overseeing all aspects of financial management, including accounting, reporting, compliance, risk analysis, and strategic planning. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in corporate accounting, with expertise in IFRS and GAAP standards, ensuring our organization maintains fiscal integrity and regulatory compliance. As a key leader, you will drive financial excellence, foster business development initiatives, and support sustainable growth through innovative financial strategies.

In this high-impact role, the Director of Accounting and Finance will oversee all accounting operations, ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, maintain strong internal controls, and provide strategic financial insights to support our rapid growth in the energy sector. This hands-on leadership position is ideal for a strategic thinker with construction/EPC industry experience who thrives in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage the full accounting cycle, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, job costing, project accounting, payroll, fixed assets, and month-end/year-end close processes.
Oversee preparation of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
Manage project accounting for construction and fabrication contracts, ensuring proper revenue recognition (e.g., percentage-of-completion method), cost tracking, WIP analysis, and variance reporting.
Develop and maintain robust internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Coordinate external audits, tax preparations, and compliance filings; serve as the primary point of contact for auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutions.
Provide financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis to support executive decision-making and project bidding/pricing strategies.
Oversee cash flow management, banking relationships, and treasury functions to optimize liquidity for ongoing projects and growth initiatives.
Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team (including potential future hires as the company expands), fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Collaborate cross-functionally with project management, procurement, operations, and executive teams to ensure financial alignment with business objectives.
Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes (e.g., related to energy sector accounting), and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and reporting quality.
Support special projects, including system implementations (ERP enhancements), process improvements, and due diligence for potential partnerships or expansions.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; Master's degree or CPA certification strongly preferred.
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role (e.g., Controller, Director of Accounting, or similar).
Proven experience in the construction, EPC, oil & gas, energy, or industrial infrastructure sectors, including expertise in project/job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting, and contract revenue recognition.
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and relevant industry accounting standards; familiarity with ASC 606 and construction-specific guidance is a plus.
Experience with ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Viewpoint, Deltek, or similar construction-focused platforms); ability to lead system upgrades or migrations.
Demonstrated ability to build and scale accounting functions in a growing company environment.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
High level of integrity, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven setting.
