Full Job Description

Job Title: Tax Preparer (Subcontractor – In-Office)
Location: Virginia Beach, VA
Job Type: 1099 Subcontractor – Full-Time, Part-Time, or As-Needed
Pay: $25–$30/hour (based on experience)
Compensation will be discussed during the interview process. Please note that the top of the pay range will be reserved for CPAs.

We are a small, locally owned tax and accounting firm based in Virginia Beach, VA, serving clients of all sizes across a variety of industries. Our services include accounting, payroll, and tax preparation for individuals, businesses, estates, trusts, and nonprofits.

We are currently seeking an experienced Tax Preparer to join us as a subcontractor on a full-time, part-time, or as-needed basis. This is an in-office position only—remote work is not available.

About the Role:

We’re looking for someone with proven experience in both personal and corporate tax preparation. This subcontractor will primarily assist during the tax season, with potential for ongoing work during the rest of the year depending on skill set and workload.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare individual, corporate, partnership, and other tax returns
Research federal and state tax issues as needed
Assist with accounting, payroll, and sales tax tasks (preferred but not required)
Help set up new client accounts from start to finish
Perform occasional administrative support tasks
Communicate professionally with clients, the IRS, and state tax authorities

Requirements:

3+ years of tax preparation experience (business and personal returns)
2+ years of general accounting experience preferred
Experience with tax software (ProSeries experience is a plus)
Experience with accounting software (Sage 50 is a plus)
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality
Must be available to work on-site in Virginia Beach, VA

Credentials such as CPA, EA, or Registered Tax Preparer are a plus, but not required.

Schedule & Hours:

Office is open 8-5 M-F
Peak workload during tax season (potential for 40+ hours/week)
Reduced or as-needed hours during the off-season
Some Saturdays may be required during peak periods

Important: This is an in-person subcontractor role. We are not offering remote or relocation opportunities at this time. Candidates must be local to the Virginia Beach area.
