Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is seeking a creative and talented instructor focused on student success who has a strong knowledge background to fulfill the tenure-track role of Business Management Assistant Professor in the Corrections Education program located at the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla, Washington.
This position is filled to fulfill a contract awarded to Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) by the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (WSBCTC) to operate a correctional education program at WSP in accordance with an interagency agreement with the Department of Corrections. Walla Walla Community College and its employees working in a correctional education program are expected to follow all Department of Corrections (DOC) Policies, IT and other Security requirements, follow DOC Operational Memorandums, and comply with the Superintendent’s directions.

The current business faculty at Walla Walla Community College is an innovative group of educators focused on student success across the following business disciplines: business, management, marketing, communication, computer science, and accounting. An ability to teach each of these subjects is required for this position. WWCC faculty members are professional educators with the primary responsibility of providing a quality education for all WWCC students. The faculty uses a variety of strategies and technologies to reach the wide range of students enrolled at WWCC. Teaching and Related Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining curriculum; preparing appropriate class materials, tests, and assignments; evaluating and assessing student learning; assigning final grades to the students enrolled in the assigned course(s); and consulting with students as required by the instructional division.
Teaching includes both teaching and teaching-related activities. Teaching-related activities encompass classroom preparation; advising; curriculum development; requesting textbook orders; grading; Canvas shell development and maintenance; and student outcomes assessment, development, and implementation.

Essential Functions:

Instruction: Develop, prepare, and teach college-approved lower and upper-division business courses. Provide clear explanations, assignments, and directions for students with a wide variety of abilities and diverse backgrounds.

Technology & Course Management: Utilize available technology appropriate to assignments, such as Microsoft Suite and Canvas. Maintain course outlines and provide students with a comprehensive syllabus that includes the learning outcomes found on the master course outline.

Evaluation & Assessment: Conduct appropriate and frequent evaluations of student performance and provide feedback so students are aware of their performance throughout the quarter. Assign and submit grades. Assess and report student learning outcomes.

Records Maintenance: Maintain accurate student records including registrations, attendance, and book records.

DOC Environment Student Tracking & Advising: Track individual student progression through block program milestones to determine where students are in the program. Advise and mentor students on program options, career plans, and graduation requirements.

Committee & Institutional Service: Serve on a variety of college committees, including program advisory committees. Assist in the preparation of reports as needed by the college, i.e. accreditations, program reviews. Participate in commencement ceremonies.

Safety, Security & Discipline: Flexibility to operate within a dynamic and changing environment while maintaining a security mindset. Follow progressive discipline procedures as needed.

Qualifications:
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered at the discretion of the college.

Master’s Degree in Business Administration or similar degree.

Two years’ experience teaching post-secondary business courses.

Two years’ experience/work in business.

This is a full-time 212-day tenure-track Assistant Professor position is located inside the Washington State Penitentiary, an adult male prison. There are daily interactions with students (incarcerated individuals), instructors, counselors, DOC, and WWCC staff. Successful candidate must have the ability to travel between buildings with or without accommodations. Washington State Penitentiary is fully ADA compliant. The campus is tobacco free institution.

Persons hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of lawful authorization to work in the United States within three (3) days of employment and official college transcripts. WWCC participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. All Walla Walla Community College staff members employed at one of the Correction Education facilities must be cleared by an FBI background check before being hired into such positions and successfully complete a 3-week corrections training program. Department of Correction positions are grant funded and funding is not guaranteed. Upon loss of grant funding, the position will end. WWCC does not absorb the cost to fund DOC grant positions.
Compensation:
The College has a negotiated faculty salary schedule. Employee placement on the schedule is determined by education level and experience. Salary is dependent on the number of days of the contract and the candidate’s placement on the negotiated faculty salary schedule. Initial placement is generally $90,257 - $134,484 (includes a 2.6% COLA effective 7/1/2026) for a standard 212-day contract, dependent on qualifications (additional compensation for doctorate degree). The College has a comprehensive faculty benefit program including medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance; paid sick leave; and retirement and two optional deferred compensation programs. All full-time employees will automatically have 3% of taxable income deferred into the State of Washington Deferred Compensation Program (DCP). The college also supports faculty professional development. Walla Walla Community College requires all employees to participate in direct deposit for payment of salary.
