Job Summary
We are looking for a dependable and mechanically inclined Maintenance & Facilities Technician Assistant to support the daily operation, repair, safety, and upkeep of a manufacturing facility.
This position supports both production equipment maintenance and general facilities maintenance. The right candidate must be able to use tools safely, recognize basic mechanical problems, complete assigned repairs correctly, and use good judgment when working around equipment, building systems, and production areas.
This is not a general labor position. This role requires hands-on mechanical ability, safe work habits, attention to detail, and the ability to think through basic repairs before acting. The employee is not expected to be a journeyman mechanic, electrician, or HVAC technician, but they must be mechanically minded and willing to learn machine maintenance, preventive maintenance, and facility repair.
The person in this role helps keep production equipment, work areas, facility systems, and building assets safe, functional, and ready for use.
Responsibilities
- Assist with preventive maintenance on production equipment, shop equipment, tools, fixtures, and related machinery.
- Inspect, clean, lubricate, adjust, and repair equipment as assigned.
- Identify and report abnormal sounds, leaks, worn parts, loose hardware, damaged guards, overheating, vibration, and unsafe equipment conditions.
- Perform basic mechanical repairs under direction, including replacing belts, fasteners, fittings, guards, hoses, wheels, bearings, rollers, small motors, and other common components.
- Assist with troubleshooting minor equipment issues and determining when a problem needs to be escalated.
- Help move, set up, level, secure, and adjust equipment, tables, carts, racks, workstations, and other facility items.
- Perform general facility repairs, including doors, walls, floors, fixtures, shelving, racks, carts, tables, workstations, and storage areas.
- Assist with basic plumbing, air lines, lighting, filters, drains, leaks, and facility inspections.
- Help maintain safe walkways, exits, dock areas, parking areas, production areas, and common areas.
- Support painting, patching, cleaning, organizing, grounds work, and general facility improvement projects.
- Assist with seasonal and emergency facility needs such as snow removal, roof leak response, drainage issues, storm cleanup, and outdoor repairs.
- Use hand tools, power tools, ladders, carts, and shop equipment safely and correctly.
- Complete basic work order notes, maintenance checklists, inspection forms, and repair documentation.
- Keep maintenance areas, tool storage, parts areas, and workspaces clean and organized.
- Follow all company safety rules, PPE requirements, housekeeping standards, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Communicate clearly with maintenance, production, and leadership regarding repairs, safety concerns, unfinished work, and needed parts.
Requirements
- Hands-on mechanical ability or repair experience required.
- Ability to safely use common hand tools and power tools.
- Basic understanding of how parts, tools, and equipment work together.
- Ability to follow instructions and ask questions before moving forward when unsure.
- Ability to complete basic repairs without constant supervision after instruction.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work safely around production equipment and facility systems.
- Ability to communicate clearly with supervisors, maintenance personnel, and production employees.
- Willingness to follow company safety rules, PPE requirements, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
Preferred Experience
- Manufacturing, maintenance, construction, automotive, warehouse, farm, or building repair experience.
- Basic understanding of belts, bearings, fasteners, motors, guards, air lines, carts, racks, doors, fixtures, and mechanical assemblies.
- Experience using drills, saws, grinders, wrenches, sockets, measuring tools, and basic shop equipment.
- Forklift, pallet jack, scissor lift, or similar equipment experience is helpful but not required.
Physical Requirements
This position requires regular physical activity in a manufacturing and facilities environment. The employee must be able to:
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, reach, climb, and work with hands throughout the shift.
- Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Use ladders, carts, hand tools, power tools, and basic shop equipment safely.
- Work around production equipment, noise, dust, heat, cold, grease, oils, and general shop conditions.
- Work overhead or in awkward positions for short periods.
- Move throughout the facility to respond to maintenance and facility needs.
Work Environment
This position works in a manufacturing and facilities environment. Work may take place in production areas, maintenance areas, storage areas, offices, docks, outdoor spaces, and common areas.
The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, moving equipment, tools, ladders, oils, grease, and changing temperatures. Required PPE must be worn when applicable.

The ideal candidate is mechanically minded, dependable, careful, and willing to learn. This position is a good fit for someone with hands-on repair experience from maintenance, construction, automotive work, farm repair, warehouse maintenance, manufacturing, or similar work.

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
