Role Summary and Strategic Impact
The Welder / Fabricator is responsible for performing welding, fabrication, and installation work on commercial and industrial construction projects. This role supports field and shop operations by producing high-quality welds, assisting with fabrication activities, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project specifications.
The Welder / Fabricator works closely with project teams, pipefitters, foremen, and supervisors to support project schedules, maintain quality standards, and contribute to successful project execution.
I. Welding & Fabrication Duties

Perform welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and other materials using SMAW, GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), FCAW, or other welding processes as required.

Fabricate, assemble, and install piping systems, supports, and structural components according to project specifications.

Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, weld maps, and specifications.

Prepare materials for welding including cutting, beveling, grinding, fitting, and alignment.

Operate welding equipment, torches, grinders, plasma cutters, and fabrication tools safely and effectively.

Assist with field installation, modifications, repairs, and shop fabrication activities as needed.

Inspect completed welds and fabrication work to ensure compliance with company quality standards and applicable codes.

Assist with pressure testing, startup activities, and project closeout support when required.
II. Safety & Quality Responsibilities

Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and jobsite safety requirements.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in both shop and field settings.

Properly use PPE and maintain welding and fabrication equipment safely.

Identify and report safety concerns, equipment issues, or fabrication defects immediately.

Maintain high standards of workmanship, productivity, and quality control.
III. Teamwork & Coordination

Work collaboratively with pipefitters, foremen, superintendents, and project teams to meet project deadlines.

Communicate effectively regarding project progress, material needs, and fabrication issues.

Assist with loading, staging, and coordination of fabricated materials and components.

Mentor and assist apprentice welders, helpers, or less experienced team members as needed.

Support overall project success by maintaining professionalism, teamwork, and reliability.
Required Qualifications and Competencies

Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred

Experience: Previous welding, fabrication, or construction experience preferred.

Certifications: Welding certifications preferred but not required. Ability to pass weld tests may be required depending on project needs.

Technical Skills: Basic knowledge of welding procedures, fabrication techniques, blueprint reading, and construction safety practices preferred.

Key Traits: Strong work ethic, attention to detail, dependability, teamwork, communication skills, and commitment to safety and quality workmanship.

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly. Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions. Frequent standing, bending, climbing, kneeling, and lifting required.
