Accountabilities / Responsibilities:
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Architect – Business, responsible for working with stakeholders, both leadership and subject matter experts, to build a holistic view of the organization’s business capabilities, strategy, processes, and operating model. This individual will utilize knowledge and experience to link the business mission, strategy, and processes of the organization to the IT strategy, and document this utilizing multiple architectural models or views that show how the current and future needs of the organization will be met in an efficient, sustainable, agile, and adaptable manner. A central focus of this role is guiding IT’s transformation from an operations-focused function into a business value-driven partner.

The Enterprise Architecture team at SCA Health exists to bring clarity and coherence to a complex, hybrid technology landscape. Guided by our motto—Simplify. Align. Deliver.—we connect business strategy to technical execution across SCA’s joint ventures, management services arrangements, and ambulatory surgery operations. As a peer to the Office of the CIO, EA sets the architectural vision, standards, and governance that ensure our technology investments deliver real business value and support our healthcare mission. Key Accountabilities

Develop, maintain, promote, and evangelize the enterprise business capabilities model and the mappings that connect capabilities to processes, applications, data, and strategic outcomes for the organization.

Own the alignment between business needs and technology, ensuring IT strategy and solutions advance the Company’s business objectives.

Provide strategic consultation to assigned business customers in designing capability-based solutions, functions, and organizational structures, as well as in identifying enabling capabilities based on business requirements.

Guide IT in transitioning from an operations-focused team to a business value-driven team, helping teams frame their work in terms of capability uplift and measurable business outcomes.

Work closely with PMO, business users, and stakeholders across various initiatives to understand functional and business aspects of projects, ensuring adherence to Enterprise Architecture principles.

Analyze the business and operating environment to detect critical capability gaps, redundancies, and deficiencies, and recommend solutions for improvement.

Support development of business cases and cost-benefit analysis, while reducing initiative risk through capability-driven prioritization.

Orchestrate, design, and architect business solutions that leverage the existing investment made in current business and IT capabilities.

Provide portfolio governance and oversight to drive lifecycle optimization and alignment of initiatives to defined business capabilities.

Present ideas with qualitative and quantitative findings.

Articulate business architecture concepts and analytical findings to Executive Management, Business leadership, software developers, and end users.

Establish standards and processes for capability modeling and business architecture to achieve quality and consistency.

Build relationships with business units and IT teams to gain an understanding of business processes, capabilities, and required outcomes.

Influence and guide best practices at the individual performer level, work through business and process challenges faced by the team, and provide solutions.

Contribute to the growth and maturity of the IT department by providing mentorship, fostering development and knowledge transfer, and thought-leading by example.

Develop, manage, and publish business capability models, value streams, and business reference architectures.

Identify and help prioritize business-driven remediation of capability gaps and process debt within the environment.

Share best practices, lessons learned, and constantly update the business architecture based on changing strategy, market conditions, and organizational priorities.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
-
8-10+ years of experience in business architecture, business analysis, strategy, or business/IT consulting.
-
2-5+ years of experience working in an architect or business/technical leadership capacity, most recent role included.

Solid understanding of healthcare provider (ASC) business models, operations, and the strengths and weaknesses of healthcare delivery organizations, with the ability to provide a trusted voice at the decision-making table.

Demonstrated experience building and maintaining business capability models and mapping capabilities to processes, applications, and data.

Familiarity with industry standards and frameworks for business architecture (e.g., BIZBOK) in the healthcare provider sector.
-
Strong understanding of value stream mapping, business process modeling, and operating model design.

Strong background in linking business strategy to technology investment and portfolio prioritization.

Strong knowledge of business case development, cost-benefit analysis, and value realization methodologies.

Knowledge of TOGAF, ArchiMate, ITSM, and ITIL required; certification preferred.

Excellent conceptual modeling skills irrespective of technology, and willingness to assume total ownership of business architecture from inception to delivery.

Fluency in modern-day IT management concepts, including strategic planning, enterprise architecture, capital planning, business intelligence, and IT portfolio management.

Experience in creating an effective framework and process model for establishing enterprise-wide business architecture.

Ability and willingness to document business capabilities, processes, and dependencies for existing operations currently in use at SCA.

Understanding and experience implementing the strategic alignment of business and IT.

Experience creating a common architecture vision across Facilities and Support Services.

Demonstrated competency in communicating the value of enterprise and business architecture to stakeholders and senior management.

Understanding of how business architecture informs SDLC processes, solution patterns, and delivery frameworks.

Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to develop and conduct executive-level presentations.

Ability to collaborate with various levels of individuals – both IT and business.

Experience with vendor management and building vendor relationships.

Self-directed with the ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.

Experience with Mergers & Acquisitions, in areas of Diligence & Integration, is desirable.
