Activity Center Instructor

Disability Resources, Inc., is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization that supports a community designed to enhance the lives of adults with intellectual disabilities. We are located in the great state of Texas and are currently seeking a relationship builder and difference maker in our Activity Center Instructor

Disability Resources, Inc. provides industry-leading services to our residents such as; helping residents develop their life skills, providing required medical care, a variety of therapies, offering spiritual opportunities for growth, and encouraging healthy lifestyles.

Our mission at Disability Resources, Inc., is to provide exceptional care and develop meaningful lives for intellectually challenged adults in a Christian environment. We are growing and adding positions to our team!

The Activity Center Instructor is responsible for the development and implementation of daily activities where each individual is urged to develop their skills and encouraged to fulfill their full potential. This role is also responsible for facility utilization within the day program, maintenance of the Activity Center and administration of out nutrition plan.

The job duties for the position of Activity Center Instructor are listed below.

Job Summary: The Activity Center Instructor assumes the following job duties…

Oversee the incorporation of DRI’s mission statement in the Folks daily lives
Know of and understand each Folks abilities, disabilities and interests in order to supervise and care for the Folk’s effectively
Know and maintain strict adherence to all DRI policies and procedures
Ensure compliance with all appropriate State and Federal standards
Ensure all Activity Center equipment is maintained
Consult with Vocational Lead in all aspects of Folk’s vocational activities in planning and implementation of all DRI jobs, job placement and supervision of folks as may be required
Develop, implement, and maintain a Special Olympics program
Develop, implement, and monitor daily activities to ensure daily participation of every Folk.
Ensure that all activities protect the safety and health of the Folks.
Oversee the lunch program to ensure that the menu is followed, meals are prepared properly, food properly stored, kitchen and dining area sanitary and Folks demonstrate acceptable behavior
Oversight of volunteers to provide support in activities and sports, to improve Folk’s skills and interests
Ensures Special Evenings Activities such as monthly worship and dances occur
Aids in the Bell Pepper and Chime activities
Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the DRI’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location
Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises all activity center staff and residential staff when in Activities department. Acts on behalf of Director of Vocational Services during his/her absence. Supervises activities of Folk’s in their care

Qualifications

Shall remain current in all required training. Shall maintain valid CPR certification
Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License and meet DRI driving policy
Ability to read and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintain instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write, in English, routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak the English language effectively.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must have vision abilities of depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Environmental and Working Conditions: You will work at multiple locations within the community campus. There may be times you attend off campus activities. You may be required to cover a specific shift and/or overtime as business needs see fit.

Physical and Mental Effort: Sitting, standing need to lift, pull, carry, and push items weighing up to fifty pounds. Frequent need to stoop, kneel, and reaching. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity. Ability to utilize practical common sense and critical thinking is required.

Schedule: Your schedule is a Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. occasionally there may be times that you may be asked to stay past your normal shift or potentially come in on the weekend as business needs require.
