Education: Required – High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in a Health and Human Services related field.
Experience: Required – With a high school diploma or equivalent, at least 3 years related direct service experience.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree will substitute for experience.
Summary: The Parent Educator is responsible for using sound professional judgment and best practices to ensure quality services are provided to the service population especially in crisis situations while maintaining compliance with established program standards.

Essential Functions:
1. Outreach and recruitment of participants for classes, including efforts for minimizing attrition.
2. Establishes and maintains a trusting and professional working relationship with families by providing regular contact through personal visits.
3. Administer intake, assessments, and screening tools to clients and family members.
4. Utilizes intake and assessment results to establish and effectively implement goals, objectives, and activities identified with parents.
5. Records all group and individualized services and activities in a complete, concise, and timely manner utilizing program forms into PEIRS (DFPS) and Salesforce software.
6. Meets with Program Director on a weekly basis to evaluate status of families on caseload.
7. Applies working knowledge of parent-child interaction, child development, and dynamics of child abuse/neglect to teach positive parenting and non-violent child management techniques, promoting healthy outcomes for fathers and their families.
8. Reduces participant’s stress by helping them learn problem-solving and coping skills using strength-based & solution-focused communication strategies.
9. Maintains familiarity and knowledge of community resources and uses these appropriately to meet the needs of families and to increase the quality of support systems for fathers.
10. Observes participants/families for signs that they may need advanced support; makes referrals to and participates in crisis teams.
11. Assist participants/families with paperwork needed in applications for programs such as medical or financial assistance.
12. Conducts community outreach in educating parents, professionals, and others about program and agency services, and child abuse prevention awareness.
13. Maintain confidential individual files for assigned participants.
14. Other job duties as assigned.
Measurable Deliverables:
1. Obtains and maintains certification in 24/7 Dad curriculum administration.
2. Enroll and serve parents in group classes.
3. Conduct an average of three 12-week group parenting courses each month.
4. Promote healthy outcomes for fathers and their families.
5. Document all attendance on a weekly basis, and no less than monthly.
6. Administer registration, assessments, and client surveys to all participants.
7. Attend all required training courses.
8. Maintain current participant records on weekly basis in PEIRS and Salesforce
9. Provide monthly community education on child abuse prevention strategies.
Credentials, Skills and Abilities:
1. Maintain current licenses and certificates required for the position including but not limited to:
First Aid CPR Other
2. Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screens and maintain emotional control and professional composure at all times.
3. Provide proof of work eligibility status upon request.
4. Pass a pre-employment and biennial criminal background and motor vehicle check (fingerprints needed if applicant has lived out of state within the past 5 years)
5. Demonstrate the ability to:
a. Respond sensitively and competently to the service population’s cultural and socio-economic characteristics.
b. Communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English.
c. Work in a fast-paced environment.
d. Maintain computer literacy required to meet the responsibilities of the position.
e. Work effectively and without intensive supervision both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
f. Travel as needed.
g. Manage time effectively and efficiently.
