Full Job Description

The Accounting Director serves as the financial engine of our high-end residential landscaping operations. This position requires a blend of high-level strategy and tactical execution. You will oversee all accounting functions—including job costing for design-build installations, recurring maintenance billing, seasonal cash reserves, and subcontractor management—while serving as a strategic advisor to the owner.

Core Responsibilities:

· Job Costing & Margin Analysis: Track labor, materials, and equipment allocation to ensure all commercial and residential projects meet target gross margins. Oversee Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting for large installations.

· Cash Flow & Seasonality: Develop rolling forecasts and manage cash reserves to navigate the highly seasonal revenue cycles of the landscaping industry.

· Equipment & Fleet Management: Manage the accounting for a large fleet of vehicles and heavy equipment, including depreciation schedules, lease-vs-buy analysis, and maintenance overhead allocation.

· Financial Reporting & Close: Lead the month-end and year-end close processes. Prepare financial statements, budget-to-actual variance reports, and division-level (Maintenance vs. Landscape) P&L statements.

· Compliance: Manage sales tax for services versus physical materials.

· Systems Integration: Manage and optimize our accounting software, QuickBooks Online.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA or CMA preferred.

· 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

· Direct experience in landscaping, construction, or a closely related field-service industry.

· Deep understanding of percentage-of-completion accounting and job-costing methodologies.

· Technical Skills: Advanced Proficiency in Excel (Pivot tables, dynamic cash flow modeling); proficiency with industry software and QuickBooks.

· Mindset: Highly proactive, comfortable in a fast-paced environment, and capable of translating financial data into actionable plain-English advice for non-financial field supervisors.
