As an Assistant Chief Engineer at JLL, you'll play a pivotal role in maintaining operational excellence across our client's facilities. Working alongside the Chief Engineer, you'll help oversee the daily mechanical, electrical, and plumbing operations that keep buildings running smoothly and efficiently. This position combines hands-on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, as you'll supervise engineering staff, coordinate preventive maintenance programs, and ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory standards. You'll serve as a key point of contact for building management, contractors, and tenants, addressing operational issues with both technical skill and strong communication. Assist the Chief Engineer in managing all building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and building automation systems
Supervise and mentor engineering technicians, assigning work orders and ensuring timely completion of all maintenance tasks
Conduct regular inspections of mechanical rooms, equipment, and building systems to identify potential issues before they become problems
Coordinate and oversee preventive maintenance programs, ensuring all equipment is serviced according to manufacturer specifications and regulatory requirements
Respond to emergency situations and system failures, troubleshooting issues and implementing solutions to minimize downtime
Manage relationships with vendors and contractors, reviewing proposals, coordinating access, and ensuring quality workmanship
Maintain accurate documentation of all maintenance activities, equipment logs, and compliance records using computerized maintenance management systems
Support energy management initiatives and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs
Ensure all work is performed in accordance with OSHA, EPA, and local safety regulations while maintaining a safe work environment for staff and building occupants
High school diploma or equivalent, with a valid stationary engineer's license or equivalent certification as required by local jurisdiction
Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in building operations, maintenance, and repair of commercial facilities
Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical distribution, plumbing, and building automation systems
Demonstrated experience supervising maintenance staff and coordinating contractor activities
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office applications
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex mechanical and electrical issues
Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients, tenants, and team members at all levels
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related technical field
Universal EPA refrigerant certification (CFC certification)
LEED accreditation or certification in sustainable building operations
Experience with energy management systems and implementing cost-saving initiatives
Background in managing operations for Class A commercial office buildings or similar properties
Familiarity with fire/life safety systems testing and compliance requirements
