Laboratory Technician – Cannabis Lab
Job Summary
North Coast Testing Laboratories, LLC (NCTL) is a cannabis testing laboratory serving Ohio's medical and adult-use cannabis market. NCTL is a production laboratory that analyzes cannabis flower, concentrated cannabinoid extracts, and cannabis-infused products for licensed cultivators and processors throughout the state.
We are seeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to support daily laboratory operations. This position is primarily responsible for performing moisture content and water activity testing while assisting with sample receiving, sample preparation, laboratory organization, and other routine laboratory duties. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and enjoys working in a fast-paced production laboratory environment.
This position plays a key role in supporting daily laboratory operations and ensuring the timely processing of client samples while maintaining compliance with laboratory quality standards and regulatory requirements.
Essential Responsibilities
- Perform moisture content and water activity testing on client samples, including sample preparation, instrument operation, quality control review, data reporting, and routine instrument maintenance in accordance with approved laboratory procedures.
- Maintain turnaround times by prioritizing daily moisture content and water activity testing to support laboratory workflow.
- Review moisture content and water activity data for accuracy and compliance with established quality control criteria prior to reporting results.
- Report moisture content and water activity results in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) according to established laboratory procedures.
- Document all testing activities accurately and completely in accordance with laboratory SOPs, quality assurance requirements, and regulatory standards.
- Assist laboratory analysts with sample preparation for pesticide, terpene, residual solvent, heavy metal, and other analytical testing as needed.
- Assist with sample receiving and labeling for client samples.
- Perform sample homogenization according to established laboratory procedures.
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness by washing glassware, cleaning work areas, and disposing of laboratory waste in accordance with laboratory procedures.
- Prepare laboratory supplies, including labeling vials, organizing consumables, stocking routine laboratory supplies, and maintaining inventory as assigned.
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment, including balances, pipettes, and water activity instruments.
- Follow all laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), quality assurance requirements, safety protocols, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Support laboratory efficiency by assisting with general laboratory duties and special projects as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to accurately follow written procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced production laboratory environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and other basic computer applications.
- Ability to accurately enter, review, and manage data within a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with laboratory staff.
- Commitment to quality, accuracy, and laboratory safety.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to work onsite during scheduled hours.
- Ability to perform repetitive laboratory tasks while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Forensic Science, or another related scientific discipline.
- Previous experience working in a production, analytical, environmental, pharmaceutical, food, or cannabis laboratory.
- Experience using a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Familiarity with basic laboratory equipment and laboratory documentation practices.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for the majority of an 8-hour shift.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate laboratory equipment, balances, pipettes, and computers.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move laboratory supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to distinguish colors and read instrument displays.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including a laboratory coat, gloves, and safety glasses.
Work Schedule
This is a full-time, onsite swing-shift position.
- Monday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Tuesday – Friday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
