Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Step-Down Registered Nurse to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this vital role, you will provide specialized nursing care to patients transitioning from intensive care units to less acute settings, ensuring smooth recovery and optimal health outcomes. Your expertise will support patients with complex medical needs, including those requiring critical care, long-term management, and specialized treatments such as botulinum toxin therapy or dialysis. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on patient recovery while working in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Monitor and assess patients’ vital signs, symptoms, and overall condition to ensure safe transition from acute care settings.
Administer medications, including IV infusions and injections, following strict aseptic techniques and medical documentation standards.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans tailored to each patient’s needs.
Manage complex cases involving trauma, cardiac catheterization, infectious diseases, or neurological conditions with precision and compassion.
Educate patients and their families on post-discharge care plans, including wound care, medication management, and lifestyle modifications.
Document all patient interactions accurately using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Cerner or Epic while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
Assist with procedures like suturing, tube feeding management, catheter care, or ventilator support as needed in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Requirements

Valid RN license with current state registration and compliance with licensing standards.
Proven experience in step-down units, ICU, emergency medicine, or hospital medicine environments.
Strong knowledge of critical care practices including airway management, acute pain management, trauma medicine, and infection control protocols.
Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner for efficient medical documentation.
Experience working with diverse patient populations including geriatrics, pediatrics, individuals with developmental disabilities or memory care needs.
Competency in performing IV insertions, phlebotomy, laboratory specimen collection/processing, and basic life support (BLS).
Excellent assessment skills with the ability to respond swiftly to emergent situations involving trauma or acute deterioration.
