Lahrmer & Company, LLC is a well-established CPA firm in Northfield, Ohio, serving individuals and businesses throughout the Nordonia Hills community and Northeast Ohio. Founded in 2005 by Chad Lahrmer, CPA, the firm has built deep, long-standing relationships with local clients who value personalized service, and the Lahrmer family has been rooted in Nordonia Hills since 1975.

We provide a personal, one-on-one approach that only a boutique practice can offer. Our work is guided by three principles: Professionalism, Responsiveness, and Quality.

The Opportunity

This isn't just a job posting. It's a rare chance to step into a thriving, turnkey practice with a potential path to ownership.

Firm owner Chad Lahrmer, CPA (Kent State University graduate 1997; former audit manager at Hausser + Taylor in Cleveland; 21 years running his own firm) is seeking an experienced tax professional who wants to build toward owning their own practice. The right candidate will join as a key member of the team, grow client relationships under direct mentorship from Chad, and work toward a future succession plan on a timeline that works for both parties.

You'd be stepping into an established client base generating consistent revenue, with referral relationships actively growing. This isn't building from scratch. It’s joining a team that already works.

What You'll Do

Prepare and review individual and business tax returns
Provide tax planning and advisory services to a loyal, established client base
Collaborate directly with the firm owner on client engagements
Introduce new technologies to improve processes and increase tax prep efficiencies
Build client relationships with the goal of eventually leading the practice
Oversee staff execution of bookkeeping processes, conducting detailed reviews and offering technical direction
Provide payroll support by addressing client inquiries and ensuring proper initial configuration

The Schedule (This Is the Good Part)

During tax season (February – April 15th), expect 50–60 hours per week. That's the grind, and you know it comes with the territory.

But off-season? The office runs Monday through Thursday, 9 AM to 3 PM. Fridays are by appointment only. Your schedule is reduced, flexible, and yours to manage. No one's tracking your hours or optimizing your calendar for someone else's bottom line.

Who You Are

CPA licensed (or actively pursuing CPA licensure)
Experienced in tax preparation and compliance (not entry-level; you can hit the ground running); at least 2 years of experience
Local to the Nordonia Hills / Northeast OH area or willing to relocate (relocation assistance not provided)
Entrepreneurial minded with a genuine desire to own and run your own firm
Tech-savvy and excited to bring modern tools and workflows to a traditional practice
A people person who values the personal, relationship-driven approach that clients love about Lahrmer & Company

What You Won't Deal With

No billable-hour pressure optimized for someone else's profit
No committee approvals to try a new tool or workflow
No office politics or bureaucratic layering
No downtown commute, parking garages, or fighting traffic. Northfield is a quick, easy drive from anywhere in the Nordonia/Summit County corridor.

Compensation & Benefits

In recognition of the firm's succession plan, compensation is intentionally flexible and will be negotiated based on experience. The structure may incorporate salary, commission, benefit support, or a tailored combination that aligns with the pathway to future firm ownership.

You won't be a number at a large firm. You'll work side-by-side with an experienced CPA who has built something real over two decades, and you'll have a genuine opportunity to take the reins when the time is right.

The client base is strong. Referral relationships are growing. The community trust that Chad has built since 2005 transfers to whoever steps into this role. That kind of generational goodwill isn't something you can build in five years on your own.
