Full Job Description

Glenwood is seeking a Family Support Specialist to join our team. This position plays a critical role in ensuring high-quality, family centered services through strong coordination, communication, and data management. provide support, guidance, and resource coordination to children and families participating in at home, autism-related services. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting families throughout the referral, intake, assessment, and service navigation process while helping connect them to community resources and supports. The Family Support Specialist will work collaboratively with interdisciplinary team members to ensure families receive timely access to services and individualized support.

Essential Functions:

Family Engagement and Support: Build and maintain supportive relationships with families by providing guidance, education, and ongoing assistance throughout the service delivery process.
Intake and Referral Coordination: Conduct outreach to referred families, provide program information, and coordinate intake, enrollment, and onboarding into Autism Home Visitation services.
Home-Based Services: Conduct home visits to provide direct support, complete assessments, coordinate services, and identify family strengths and needs.
Resource Navigation: Assist families in accessing community resources, educational supports, healthcare services, and programs that promote stability and child development.
Department of Mental Health Services Assistance: Support families with applying for Alabama Department of Mental Health Autism Services and obtaining eligibility for appropriate programs and supports.
Service Coordination: Coordinate services across families, providers, and community agencies to ensure continuity of care and access to needed resources.
Family Resource Development: Develop, maintain, and distribute family resource materials, referral information, and community resource guides.
Team Collaboration: Collaborate with Autism Home Visitation staff and interdisciplinary team members to support family needs and ensure effective delivery service.
Meeting Participation: Attend and actively participate in team meetings, case consultations, training, and other organizational meetings.
Program Support: Provide operational and programmatic support to Autism Clinic services to ensure efficient delivery service.
Documentation and Compliance: Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in accordance with agency policies, funding requirements, and regulatory standards.
General Duties: Perform other duties as needed to support effective program operations

Demonstrates the ability to build trusting relationships with children, families, caregivers, and community partners.
Possesses strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse populations.
Knowledge of community resources, service systems, and supports available to children and families affected by autism spectrum disorder.
Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with families, public agencies, schools, healthcare providers, and community organizations.
Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple responsibilities, maintain accurate documentation, and prioritize tasks effectively.
Capable of applying sound judgment and critical thinking skills when addressing family needs and service barriers.
Contributes to a positive, respectful, and mission-driven work environment.
Consistently models the organization’s mission, vision, values, and standards of professional conduct.
Uses basic computer systems, documentation tools, and communication platforms to complete reports, maintain records, enter data, and support program operations.

Education, Licensing, and Certifications

Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, public health, education, neuroscience, human services, or a related field.

Experience

Experience coordinating programs, managing data systems, conducting intake processes, or supporting family-centered services is preferred.
Experience working with individuals with autism spectrum disorder and/or developmental disabilities is required.

Additional Requirements

Must be 21 years of age or older.
Valid Alabama driver’s license with insurability through the agency’s carrier.
Must clear DHR Child Abuse & Neglect Registry
Must obtain certification in CPR, First Aid, and Managing Crisis Safety (MCS) within 30 days of employment.
