Shift: Days, 3x12hrs
Hours: 36 hrs/wk
Start Date: Aug 10, 2026
Length: 8 weeks

Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Inpatient Psychiatric RN requiring an active AL or compact RN license and prior short-term acute care experience.

Details

Inpatient Behavioral Health unit setting
Locked unit caring for adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients
Patient population includes anxiety, bipolar, depressive, psychotic, and schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, substance use, suicidal behavior, and trauma/stressor-related disorders
Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6
Day shift schedule of 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
Every other weekend (EOW) work required
Floating required
May be asked to serve as Charge Nurse as needed
Paragon charting system preferred

Requirements

Active AL or compact RN license required
Current BLS certification via AHA required
NIH Stroke Scale certification preferred
Minimum 2 years of short-term acute care experience required
Trauma Level II experience preferred
Experience with personality disorders preferred
Skilled in seclusion protocols/procedures, crisis intervention, and de-escalation techniques
Experience administering antianxiety, antidepressant, antipsychotic, and mood stabilizer medications
Fit test required

Additional Information

Provide direct care to psychiatric patients including medication administration and monitoring
Utilize crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to manage assaultive or self-injurious behavior
Apply seclusion protocols and physical hold procedures as clinically indicated
Support patients through voluntary and involuntary commitment processes
Facility housing available for travelers
Requested time off (RTO) limited to a maximum of 7 days
Local candidates accepted within a 60-mile radius, though offered at a lower rate
Prior permanent employees of the facility are not eligible for this travel position
