Physician Assistant (PA) – Ambulatory Infusion Center
Reports To:
Medical Director and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)
Position Summary:
The Physician Assistant (PA) provides comprehensive medical care to patients receiving outpatient infusion therapies under the supervision of the Medical Director in accordance with state laws and regulations. The PA evaluates patients for infusion therapy, develops treatment plans, orders and interprets diagnostic tests, prescribes medications within the scope of practice, manages infusion-related complications, and collaborates with physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and referral providers to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care.
The PA serves as a clinical leader by promoting evidence-based practice, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting high-quality outcomes for patients receiving biologic and specialty infusion therapies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Evaluation:
- Perform comprehensive medical histories and physical examinations.
- Review referral documentation, laboratory results, imaging studies, and prior medical records.
- Assess patient eligibility for infusion therapy.
- Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising physician.
- Obtain informed consent when appropriate.
- Conduct follow-up evaluations to monitor treatment response.
Infusion Management:
- Evaluate patients prior to each infusion.
- Order, interpret, and monitor laboratory studies.
- Prescribe medications and infusion therapies in accordance with state regulations and collaborative practice agreements.
- Monitor patients during infusion treatment.
- Identify and manage infusion-related adverse reactions.
- Determine when therapy should be delayed, modified, or discontinued.
- Coordinate emergency care when medically necessary.
Clinical Procedures:
- Perform focused physical assessments.
- Assess peripheral IV sites, implanted ports, and PICC lines.
- Evaluate vascular access complications.
- Manage common infusion-related medical issues.
- Provide immediate assessment and treatment during infusion reactions.
Patient Education:
Educate patients and caregivers regarding:
- Disease processes
- Infusion medications
- Biologic therapies
- Potential side effects
- Infection prevention
- Medication adherence
- Home monitoring
- Follow-up care
- Lifestyle recommendations related to treatment
Care Coordination:
Collaborate with:
- Referring physicians
- Specialists
- Pharmacists
- Registered nurses
- Care coordinators
- Insurance providers
- Specialty pharmacies
Participate in multidisciplinary care planning and ensure continuity of care.
Documentation:
- Complete timely and accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Document:
- History and physical examinations

- Billing documentation
- Ensure documentation supports coding and reimbursement requirements.
Quality & Regulatory Compliance:
- Maintain compliance with:
- CMS regulations

- State Physician Assistant Practice Act
- Collaborative practice agreement requirements
- Accreditation standards (ACHC, AAAHC, Joint Commission, as applicable)
- Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives.
- Assist with policy development and clinical protocol updates.
Emergency Response:
- Recognize and manage infusion reactions, including:
- Anaphylaxis
- Hypersensitivity reactions
- Cytokine release syndrome (when applicable)
- Initiate emergency treatment protocols.
- Coordinate transfer to higher levels of care when necessary.
- Participate in mock code drills and emergency preparedness training.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing clinical protocols and standing orders.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Review incident reports and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Provide clinical education to staff.
- Assist with implementation of new infusion therapies and services.
- Participate in continuing medical education.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
Licensure:
- Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Alabama (or state of practice).
- Current NCCPA certification.
- Current DEA registration (if prescribing controlled substances).
- Current Alabama Controlled Substance Certificate (if applicable).
- Current BLS Certification.
- ACLS Certification preferred.
Experience
Required:
- Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience as a Physician Assistant.

Preferred Certifications
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Certified Registered Nurse Infusion (CRNI) or equivalent infusion-related training (preferred)
- Specialty certifications or advanced experience in Rheumatology, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Oncology, or Immunology (preferred)

Compensation
· $58.50 Base Hourly Rate
· Partial Benefits
