Job Description
The Catering & Events Coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination of catering activities and events at the Land’s End Resort in Homer, AK.Daily client and customer contact required.
This position will support the Land’s End Resort, a 117-room hotel, in Homer, AK.
Responsibilities
- Ensure dining activities and services are provided in a high quality, consistent, and cost-effective manner.
- Plans or participates in planning menus, preparing and apportioning foods, and utilizing food surpluses and leftovers.
- Communicate with and lead events staff within the organization.
- Coordinate all aspects of catering activities and events.
- Work closely with clients to understand their needs and preferences.
- Responsible for measuring the performance of assigned events and activities.
- Oversee event setup, execution, and breakdown.
- Provide exceptional guest service throughout the event.
- Prepares and serves food and refreshments at social affairs.
- Purchase and/or requisition kitchen supplies, catering wares, and equipment.
- Establishes and implements an organized system of supervision and general operating procedures.
- Strong understanding of event management software.
- Must be able to read and interpret Event Forms and Pull Sheets.
- Direct and coordinates the promotion of new services.
- Tracks financial data, reports, forecasts, and expenditures to achieve optimum efficiency, economy of operations, and maximize profits.
- Supports an active safety program.
- Takes positive initiative to facilitate the employment of NANA shareholders.
- Continuously seek to improve the quality of assigned events activities.
- Make sure the responsibilities, authorities, and accountability of all assigned employees are defined and understood.
- Consistently demonstrates professional skills in efficiently carrying out assigned activities, using all forms of communications, handling of change, developing employees, solving typical business problems, and making decisions.
- Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must have minimum of three (3) years of catering & events coordinating experience.
- Alaska Food Workers Card or ServSafe Certification.
- Demonstrated knowledge of event management software.
- Must have experience with sales reports POS (Point of Sale) transactions.
- Contract requires employees to speak, understand, read and write English.
- Valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under the NMS vehicle insurance policy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hotel/hospitality catering & events planning experience preferred.
- Full beverage and bar experience preferred.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Weather: Indoors: environmentally controlled; requires most or all work to be done inside.
Noise level: Moderate to loud.
Description of environment: This is a commercial kitchen in a hotel setting.
Physical requirements: Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
