Full Job Description

Job Posting: Accountant

Position: Accountant (1.0 FTE)

Location: Igiugig, Alaska (remote or hybrid options)

Reports to: Director of Accounting & Finance and Tribal Administrator

Compensation: $35 to $50 per hour, depending on experience

Hours: 40 hours per week

About IVC

Igiugig Village Council is the tribal government of Igiugig, Alaska, stewarding the programs, grants, and finances that serve the community. We run a lean, capable team where reliable people are trusted to own their work and see it through.

The Role

The Accountant supports the daily financial recordkeeping and office management of the Council's interests, working directly with the CFO, Tribal Administrator, and Village Council. Success means accurate books, clean reconciliations, on-time reporting, and process that holds up under a single audit.

What You'll Do

Financial recordkeeping: Maintain permanent digital and printed records of transactions, reports, and data.
Budgets & grants: Maintain budget information in the accounting software reflective of approved grants and programs, and track grant budgets and procurement documentation.
Reconciliations: Perform periodic account reconciliations, including inventory and fuel meter readings.
Reporting: Provide financial reports to departments and directors, and financial information to grant administrators and consultants as authorized.
Accounts payable & receivable: Manage AP and AR accurately and on time.
Audit support: Assist in the annual single audit.
Payroll: Process payroll and maintain supporting documentation.
Systems & security: Keep financial software current and monitor related cybersecurity concerns.
CFO support: Assist in all aspects of Village finances as directed by the CFO.
Standards: Maintain the highest ethical standards, plus other duties as assigned.

Must-Haves

Bachelor's degree or higher, a relevant program equivalent, or proven experience in finance and accounting.
Two or more years of similar work experience.
Proficiency in accounting software, spreadsheets, and related programs.
High school diploma or GED.

Nice-to-Haves

Experience with grant fund accounting and single audits.
Familiarity with tribal, nonprofit, or government finance.
Comfort working remote or hybrid with a distributed team.
