Job Summary
The Prevention and Wellness Coordinator leads and collaborates with other members of the Mental Health and Student Support team in developing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive school-based prevention and intervention programs. Key prevention topics include substance misuse, bullying, suicide and violence. This position works to support school teams in integrating trauma-informed, safe, consistent, and positive behavioral support as part of a comprehensive school mental health program supporting and enhancing students' overall success. An important component of this position is establishing connections with community resources to leverage available programs that best support at-risk student populations. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).

Job Requirements
The following are required:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in psychology, social work, or similar discipline.
Three years of experience in school or related settings.

The following are preferred:

A master's degree from an accredited institution in psychology, social work, or similar discipline.
Experience in providing prevention and intervention services for youth including curriculum and small group lessons.
Familiarity with school systems.
Strong organizational and communication skills.

Essential Job Functions

Collaborates with MHSS team members to align all prevention and intervention efforts of behavioral support within MTSS (e.g. SEL, PBIS framework) in relation to key areas.
Collaborates heavily with the critical response and wellness coordinator in relation to overlapping areas such as suicide prevention, violence prevention, and STOPiT anonymous reporting management.
Delivers selected and prioritized interventions within the school setting.
Attends and participates in meetings, including community councils and task forces, which may occur outside of the staff's normally scheduled workday.
Facilitates annual professional development related to prevention, intervention, and postvention processes.
Serves as the district point of contact for technical assistance and support surrounding substance misuse prevention.
Provides staff with essential information to better understand cultural, societal, economic, familial, health, and other relevant factors and their effect on prevention efforts.
Coordinates with community resources to provide prevention and intervention programming.
Collaborates with team members on the evaluation plan to ensure monitoring of prevention efforts.
Stays current with best practices in school focused prevention and intervention supports which includes state and local requirement for educational compliance.

Physical /Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.
