Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Travel Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Critical Care team in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) during night shifts. This role offers an exciting opportunity to provide specialized patient care in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. The ideal candidate will possess extensive critical care experience, including familiarity with advanced cardiac and respiratory support, and demonstrate proficiency in utilizing electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic and Cerner. As a vital member of our healthcare team, you will deliver comprehensive nursing services to patients with complex cardiovascular conditions, ensuring optimal outcomes through expert assessment, intervention, and collaboration.

Responsibilities

Deliver expert nursing care to critically ill patients in the CVICU, including those requiring ventilator support, cardiac catheterization, and advanced hemodynamic monitoring.
Perform thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and physiological evaluations to inform treatment plans.
Administer medications accurately, including IV infusions and injections, following aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
Manage complex procedures such as suturing, catheterization, ostomy care, and sterile processing within the ICU setting.
Utilize EMR/EHR systems like Epic and Cerner for documentation of patient care activities, medical records management, and clinical data entry.
Monitor patients’ responses to treatments such as botulinum toxin therapy or pain management interventions; adjust care plans accordingly.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including cardiology, pulmonology, infectious disease specialists, and case managers—to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and infection control standards while ensuring patient safety at all times.
Support discharge planning by providing education on post-acute care needs, including memory care or hospice considerations when applicable.
Engage in ongoing professional development related to trauma medicine, ICU protocols, or specialty areas like neurocritical or neonatal resuscitation procedures.

Experience

Proven critical care experience within a Level I or Level II trauma center environment is highly preferred.
Extensive ICU experience managing complex cardiovascular cases involving cardiac catheterization and telemetry monitoring.
Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic and Cerner; familiarity with ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10) is advantageous.
Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics (PICU), geriatrics (memory/dementia care), or individuals with disabilities.
Knowledge of advanced nursing procedures such as IV insertion, tube feeding management, ventilator operation, and laboratory specimen collection.
Background in emergency medicine or hospital medicine settings is desirable for handling acute situations effectively.
Familiarity with Workers' Compensation law related to occupational health cases enhances the ability to manage workplace injury patients.
Strong understanding of infection control practices and aseptic techniques essential for maintaining a safe clinical environment.
Additional experience in specialized fields such as neurocritical care, post-operative recovery (OR experience), or long-term acute care supports comprehensive expertise.
