Full Job Description

Job Title: Ophthalmic Assistant
Department: Clinic

Job Summary

Ophthalmic assistants gather patient information necessary to complete a diagnosis and institute treatment. Ophthalmic assistants aid the doctor by preparing medical records, communicating patient concerns, performing preliminary eye function testing and following through with doctor’s orders.

General Accountabilities

· Uphold Company Core Values

· Ophthalmic Assistants review patient records to determine proper exam templates

Performs and records preliminary and special testing including but not limited to; visual field, photography, and evaluating visual acuity

Gathers information necessary to complete exam, including, medical and ocular history, chief complaint, history of present illness, current medication and allergies
Anticipates patient and doctor needs throughout patient care process
Assists doctor during procedures and transcribes patient data as necessary
Relays doctor’s orders to optical and insurance specialists when required
Schedules patients for subsequent examinations including referrals and correspondence to external physicians
Maintains all medical records
Ensures contact lens supplies are adequately stocked and patient orders are filled in the agreed upon time frame
Daily, receives and verifies accuracy of contact lens supply orders and trial orders while communicating with patient and other office locations appropriately
Maintains equipment according to preventative maintenance schedule
Uses safe practices to maintain clinic with proper cleaning, storage and usage of instruments, medications and equipment
Travel to alternate locations and assist as schedule requires
The Company reserves the right to add or change Ophthalmic Assistant duties at any time

Skills: Other

Able to communicate with others to convey information effectively.

Demonstrate active listening skills while communicating with patients and fellow team members. Have the ability to take time to understand the points being made and ask questions as appropriate.
Critical Thinking: Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Must be service oriented and actively seeking ways to help patients and fellow team members and offering assistance when possible.
Exercise the ability to recognize when an experience or issue could be problematic or result in an unexpected outcome.
Finger Dexterity: The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.

Qualifications

Strong knowledge of ophthalmology and terminology (preferred)
Experience in a medical office setting
Proficient in patient care and intake procedures (preferred)
Familiarity with HIPAA regulations
Ability to take vital signs and apply aseptic techniques

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
