Full Job Description

Job Title: Aging Services Aide

Department: Office for the Aging

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule: 35 hours per week

Pay: $18.8056 per hour

Job Summary:

Rensselaer County is seeking a full-time Aging Services Aide to support programs and services for older adults through the Office for the Aging. This position assists with service and nutrition programs and works directly with senior citizens to help meet their needs. The work is performed under direct supervision.

Responsibilities:

Engage in a wide variety of activities in support of departmental service and nutrition programs
Work directly with senior citizens and/or their delegates to assist in meeting their needs
Make home visits in response to requests from senior citizens and report needs to professional staff
Distribute information to senior citizens about community resources and available services
Assist in the preparation of regular and dietary meals for senior citizens
Pack and deliver food supplies to various nutrition sites
Check inventory of foods and supplies and examine and store incoming materials
Assist in obtaining services for individual clients
Clean refrigerators, freezers, counters, tables, stoves, cabinets, dishes, pots, and other equipment
Assist in cleaning the kitchen facility and storage areas
Set tables and serve meals to senior citizens
Assist in setting up delivery trays and arranging meals in accordance with delivery lists
Perform related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Good knowledge of the geography and social conditions of the area served by the Department for the Aging
Working knowledge of programs and services available through the Department and other service providers
Working knowledge of the characteristics, needs, and interests of senior citizens
Ability to communicate with clients who may have physical or language difficulties
Ability to relate to and motivate senior citizens
Empathy in handling sensitive human problems
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma
