Position Overview
This position is ideal for someone with prior experience working in a beer or beverage center who understands customer service, beer products, bottle redemption, NY Lottery operations, deliveries, inventory, and the physical demands of a busy beverage operation.
The ideal candidate will be capable of independently opening and closing the store, managing day-to-day store operations, operating the NY Lottery terminal, assisting customers, handling bottle redemption, receiving deliveries, stocking product, and operating a forklift safely.
This is a hands-on position for someone who can take responsibility for the store and keep operations running smoothly with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Store Management & Operations
- Open and close the store independently according to company procedures.
- Be responsible for day-to-day store operations during assigned shifts.
- Ensure the store is clean, organized, properly stocked, and ready for customers.
- Monitor the sales floor and address operational issues as they arise.
- Ensure employees follow company procedures and maintain a clean and safe workplace.
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate low-stock or operational issues to management.
- Provide management with updates regarding inventory, deliveries, equipment, staffing, customer issues, and other store concerns.
- Handle opening and closing procedures, including securing the store, checking doors, equipment, registers, and other required areas.
- Maintain a professional and positive environment for customers and coworkers.
Customer Service & Front End
- Provide friendly, knowledgeable customer service.
- Assist customers with beer and beverage selections.
- Maintain strong knowledge of beer brands, packages, styles, and product locations.
- Operate the register and accurately process customer transactions.
- Handle customer questions and resolve routine customer issues professionally.
- Keep the checkout area and front end clean and organized.
NY Lottery
- Prior experience operating a New York Lottery terminal is required.
- Sell NY Lottery products accurately and responsibly.
- Process lottery transactions and payments accurately.
- Follow all New York Lottery rules, procedures, and age-verification requirements.
- Maintain accurate lottery transactions and follow required procedures for winning tickets and payouts within authorized limits.
- Keep the lottery area organized and secure.
- Resolve routine customer questions regarding lottery products and transactions.
- Report lottery terminal issues or discrepancies to management.
Bottle & Can Redemption
- Operate and manage the bottle/can redemption area.
- Sort and handle empty bottles and cans efficiently.
- Bag and organize redemption materials.
- Maintain a clean and safe redemption area.
- Assist with the movement and storage of empty containers.
Deliveries & Inventory
- Assist with receiving beer and beverage deliveries.
- Verify incoming deliveries and help organize incoming product.
- Unload and move empty pallets.
- Move product from receiving and storage areas to the sales floor.
- Stock shelves, coolers, and displays.
- Rotate and organize inventory.
- Maintain proper product placement.
- Assist with warehouse and basement organization.
- Help keep the sales floor fully stocked throughout the day.
Forklift & Material Handling
- Safely operate a forklift to move pallets and heavy beverage products.
- Load, unload, and transport pallets between storage, receiving, and sales-floor areas.
- Assist with delivery-day operations.
- Move empty pallets and organize receiving/storage areas.
- Follow all company safety procedures and forklift operating requirements.
- Maintain awareness of customers, coworkers, equipment, and surroundings while operating machinery.
Physical Requirements
This is a physically demanding beverage center position.
The employee must be able to:
- Frequently lift and carry cases of beer and other beverage products.
- Move heavy pallets and merchandise.
- Push and pull loaded carts and equipment.
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Bend, stoop, reach, climb, and work in warehouse/storage areas.
- Work in both indoor sales-floor and warehouse/basement environments.
- Safely perform repetitive lifting and stocking throughout the shift.
Required Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a beer, beverage center, liquor store, grocery, warehouse, or similar retail environment.
- Previous experience operating a New York Lottery terminal is required.
- Strong knowledge of beer and beverage products.
- Previous bottle/can redemption experience.
- Forklift experience required.
- Current forklift certification required.
- Ability to safely handle heavy products and perform physical work.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to independently open and close a retail store.
- Ability to take responsibility for store operations when management is not present.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to follow instructions and maintain a safe, organized work environment.

What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who can do more than work the register.
The right person should be capable of moving between the front end, lottery counter, sales floor, redemption area, receiving area, and warehouse as needed.
We need someone we can trust to run the store independently when management is not present.
A successful employee will be reliable, responsible, physically capable, safety-conscious, knowledgeable about beer, experienced with NY Lottery, comfortable around heavy product, and willing to take ownership of the store during their shift.
Pay: From $16.00 per hour
