Full Job Description

Job Description

Provide professional clinical care for patients undergoing allergy evaluations, counseling, testing, treatment, and follow-up.

Duties and Responsibilities

Patient Flow and Preparation

Prepare the room for testing. Make sure you have all needed supplies. Check for consent in chart. Review previous chart note.
Obtain environmental history, vital signs, and consent.
Complete intake note, and prepare patient for test.
Perform accurate allergy test.

E.H.R. and Documentation

Keep all spreadsheets updated.
When documenting in the patient’s chart you are careful to be under your own login.
Diligently document pertinent information into Modernizing Medicine and/or Allergy Edge as appropriate.

Patient Education and Instructions

Provide teaching regarding allergy avoidance using environmental controls.
Provide appropriate handouts, educational literature, and copy of test.
Provide a folder with appropriate documents to new immunotherapy patients.
Provide epi-pen training to new immunotherapy patients.

Procedures

Use Universal Precautions and aseptic technique during allergy testing.
Provide comfort, support, reassurance, and encouragement as needed during testing.
Complete allergy test in a timely manner for both children and adults.

Laboratory

Order Immunocap (RAST) food and respiratory panels as ordered by the physician.

Referrals

Review insurance benefits for allergy patients.
Review patient’s medication list and check for contraindicated beta-blockers and antihistamines, etc.
Schedule patient in a timely manner.
Follow through with tasks.
Keep spreadsheet updated with tests, cancellations, new immunotherapy, etc.

Safety Regulations

Comply with OSHA and Safety Committee requirements.
Comply with the 2013 Compounding Bill, including chapter 797 updates, for mixing of boards and patient vials.
Follow all regulations, laws, procedures, and policies regarding storage, safeguarding and dispensing of medications.

Infection Control

Wipe down boards prior to each test.
Decontaminate workstations prior to each test and at end of day.
Handle contaminated equipment appropriately.
Dispose of biohazard materials and sharps as directed.

Supplies and Medication

Ensure that rooms are adequately stocked with supplies, medication, and linens.
If you notice that an antigen is running low, order antigen or let the supervisor know.
As we receive new antigens, enter them into the inventory in Allergy Edge.
Inspect patient vials, boards, antigens, medications, and samples to make sure nothing is past the expiration date.

At-Home Sleep Studies

Schedule appointments for pickup.
Set up and initialize unit.
Educate patient in how to use the unit.
Decontaminate and upload unit on return.
Download report and attach to patient’s chart.

Clinical Policies and Procedures

Comply with the policies and procedures.
Review policies and procedures annually or as requested by the supervisor.

Other Duties

Maintain a clean and organized work area. Store personal items away from patient view.
Respond to manager’s emails in a timely manner.
Follow directives from Allergy Lead.

Performance Standards

Functions as a member of a team with Clinic goals being paramount.
Maintains patient confidentiality.
Complies with all Clinic Policies and Procedures.
Follows the Patient Service Standards.

Requirements

Completion of an accredited school of Nursing, LPN, Medical Assisting Program or EMT training.
Current registration, license, or certification as a Nurse, LPN, Certified Medical Assistant or EMT.
Current BLS certification.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

Leadership skills
Organizational skills
Teaching ability
Strong communication skills both verbally and in writing.
Computer skills
Knowledge of ENT allergy theory provided by on-the-job training and through attendance of educational opportunities provided.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour
