What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking a skilled Emergency Management Dispatch-Telecommunicator to coordinate all-hazards incident communications and emergency response activities at Sandia National Laboratories (SNL). This role supports 24/7 emergency operations, incident management, and coordination with internal teams and external agencies during emergencies and disasters.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

Receive and triage emergency (9-1-1) and non-emergency calls via multi-line phone system, following protocols.
Provide pre-arrival EMS/EMD instructions and dispatch emergency resources using multi-channel radio systems.
Document and track service requests using CAD and other software; operate mass notification systems per DOE and NFPA standards.
Maintain logs and records for quality assurance, reporting, and event analysis.
Monitor safety of Sandia employees on domestic and international travel.
Track local and remote weather conditions; communicate safety messages to workforce.
Collaborate with Agency Representatives and Duty Officers to declare emergencies, classify incidents, and notify jurisdictions.
Serve as primary contact for security and safety incident reporting (SIMP, ES&H) on-site and remote locations.
Monitor facility control and fire alarm systems across Sandia sites; dispatch resources and notify personnel as needed.
Manage EOC duty schedules and activate EOC during emergencies.
Coordinate corporate notification and reporting programs for Sandia sites, including 3-1-1 services.
Participate in drills, exercises, and training to maintain proficiency.
Notify and activate partners with critical information to support decision-making and safe operations.
Operate effectively in dynamic, high-stress environments.
Build and maintain relationships with internal and external emergency preparedness partners.
Work onsite on rotating 24/7/365 shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, with overtime and shift differential.
Gain knowledge of alarm monitoring procedures, federal/state emergency laws, DOE orders, and lab safety policies.
Understand hazards and response procedures for fire, chemical, radiological, security, and natural disasters.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range

$48,500 - $89,000

Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

High school diploma plus three (3) or more years' experience or equivalent of combination of education and relevant experience.
Experience in the following:
- Law enforcement, fire, rescue, security, medical dispatching, other emergency services, 311, or communications and/or dispatch center.
- Microsoft Office Suite and other computer software systems used by emergency response organizations and communications centers.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire

Associates or Bachelor's degree in emergency management, business studies, public safety, communications, occupational safety, or related field and (3) years of experience, or an equivalent combination of related training and experience; or working towards completion of same.
Experience working with the following:
- Radio and notification communications systems, multiple monitoring computer consoles, data collection and recording systems, computer aided dispatch systems, and/or other emergency response and management support systems.
- National Incident Management System/Incident Command System with Emergency Operations Center, Public Safety Agency, or emergency services organization.
Completion of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) courses.
Experience in the following:
- Supporting incident management and coordination activities involving emergency response to fire, explosions, chemical, radiological, security and/or natural disaster situations.
- Procedure and training development.
Experience working in fast-paced, multitasking work environments; with the ability to quickly adapt and prioritize multiple work tasks.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to effectively present detailed information in a clear and coherent manner.
Positive demeanor and contributing employment history.
Knowledge of word processing, computer programs and other software packages.
Knowledge of established procedures for answering multiple radio and telephone lines.

About Our Team

The Emergency Management organization is responsible for protecting the workforce, public, property, and the environment from all-hazards through the implementation of all phases of emergency management: preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation. Additionally, the Emergency Management program is comprised of an integrated team of emergency management and public safety professionals dedicated to protecting life, property, environment, and Sandia's reputation.

The Emergency Management organization and its partners prepare for emergencies through the development of comprehensive emergency plans and procedures and conducting training and drills. The program is validated through performance-based exercises to demonstrate emergency response capabilities and by conducting programmatic assessments as part of readiness assurance.
Sandia's Emergency Management program is based on the National Incident Management System, a framework that provides shared vocabulary, systems and processes that guide how personnel work together during incidents or disasters. Emergency Management staff coordinates and collaborates with local, state, federal, and tribal governments, as well as nonprofit and private sectors for emergency preparedness and response through mutual aid agreements and other preparedness initiatives and activities.

Security Clearance

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
