Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Billing Supervisor, Eligibility, Claims and Payments – Multi‑Specialty oversees day‑to‑day billing operations related to insurance eligibility, claims submission, payment posting, and reconciliation across multiple clinical specialties. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely verification of insurance coverage, compliant and efficient claims processing, and proper application of payments and adjustments in accordance with payer contracts and regulatory requirements. The Supervisor provides direct leadership to billing staff, establishes workflows and performance standards, and serves as a key liaison between clinical departments, patient access, finance, and revenue cycle leadership. This position plays a critical role in maintaining revenue integrity, reducing denials and rework, improving cash collections, and supporting a seamless financial experience for patients in a complex, multi‑specialty medical practice.

Essential Functions Statement(s):

Supervise day‑to‑day billing operations for multiple specialties, including charge entry, claim submission, payment posting, and account follow‑up.
Monitor workflow to ensure timely processing of claims and resolution of outstanding accounts.
Work with the billing director to develop and implement standardized billing procedures across specialties to maintain consistency and compliance.
Lead, train, and mentor billing staff; conduct performance evaluations and support professional development.
Assign workloads, set productivity expectations, and monitor performance metrics.
Foster a collaborative, accountable, and solutions‑oriented team culture.
Actively supports and promotes professionalism that encourages staff participation in the development of standards that are collaborative and mutually respectful.
Plans, schedules, and organizes work for group/department leads, ensuring proper distribution and delegation of assignments and efficient utilization of personnel.
Supports staff by responding positively to change while supporting colleagues through the change process.
Assist with the implementation of departmental policies and procedures in accordance with company guidelines. Ensures all policies and procedures are reviewed annually.
Work closely with the practice management system vendor to identify and work to resolve systemic issues.
Analyze billing trends, denials, and reimbursement patterns to identify improvement opportunities.
Oversee denial management processes and implement corrective action plans.
Facilitates month end closing and reporting.
Ensure billing practices comply with federal and state regulations, payer policies, and organizational standards.
Conduct regular QA monitoring for staff members.
Stay current on regulatory changes, payer updates, and specialty‑specific billing requirements.
Serve as a liaison between billing, and leadership.
Serve as a subject‑matter resource for billing staff and escalate complex issues appropriately.
Communicate billing issues, trends, and performance metrics to management.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Education and Experience:

Associate or bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, Business, or related field preferred.
5-7 years of medical billing experience that consists of 3-5 years of denial management, payment posting and claims experience, and with at least 3 years in a supervisory role, required.
Experience in multi‑specialty or multi‑provider environments strongly preferred.
Expert in payer guidelines as it relates to appeals and reconsiderations.
Expert in payment posting processes, claim rejections and record requests.

Skills and Competencies:

Strong knowledge of medical billing, CPT/ICD‑10 coding, and payer reimbursement rules. Must be able to read EOB’s (Explanation of Benefits).
Proficiency with practice management and EHR systems.
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and implement process improvements. Must have advanced computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) skills.
High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
