Full Job Description

Estate Planning Document Drafter

Franklin & Kyle Elder Law, LLC is seeking a detail-oriented and capable Estate Planning Document Drafter / Law Clerk to assist with drafting estate planning documents for our Knoxville elder law practice.

This position is primarily responsible for preparing draft estate planning documents under attorney supervision. The ideal candidate will have prior experience with estate planning documents and be comfortable working carefully from client information, attorney notes, and established firm templates.

The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, dependable, comfortable working with legal documents, and able to carefully follow established templates and procedures. Prior experience with estate planning documents is preferred, but we will consider candidates with strong legal assistant, paralegal, or document drafting experience.

Primary Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include:

Drafting wills, trusts, powers of attorney, advance care plans, and related estate planning documents under attorney supervision
Reviewing client intake information and attorney notes for drafting issues
Preparing initial drafts using firm templates, software and procedures
Identifying missing information, inconsistencies, or questions for attorney review
Revising documents based on attorney feedback
Preparing beneficiary designation forms and letters to financial institutions and brokerages
Maintaining organized client files including client information, draft documents, and various other records
Assisting with related estate planning, trust, and elder law projects as needed
Protecting client confidentiality at all times

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

Prior experience as a legal assistant, paralegal, document drafter, or similar legal support role
Experience with estate planning documents preferred
Strong attention to detail
Excellent proofreading and organizational skills
Clear written communication skills
Good judgment and the ability to spot inconsistencies or missing information
Comfort working with templates, forms, and structured drafting procedures
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, email, and general computer systems
Professionalism, reliability, and discretion
Willingness to learn the firm’s estate planning process and drafting standards

A paralegal certificate, associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or recent college degree is preferred but not required for the right candidate.

Position Type

This is expected to be a part-time position, though we may consider full-time employment for the right candidate.

This is an in-office position in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Compensation

Compensation is expected to be $18–$22 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

About the Role

This is not a general administrative position. The primary responsibility is careful, accurate estate planning document drafting. Candidates should have prior exposure to wills, trusts, powers of attorney, advance directives, or similar estate planning documents, and should be comfortable working under attorney supervision using established firm templates and procedures.
