SUMMARY:
Under limited supervision, collects and analyzes environmental samples for environmental protection and monitoring purposes. Prepare, collect, and analyze water and wastewater samples as required by the State Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Health specifications. Employees are responsible for collecting distribution samples, performing water/wastewater testing, preparing reagents, and keeping detailed and accurate records.

- Support all laboratory sample-related activities, including preservation, preparation, processing, and maintenance.
- Operate laboratory equipment, including autoclaves, incubators, and analytical equipment
- Read and follow detailed written instructions
- Adhere to basic chemical and biological safety procedures
- Maintain and update appropriate documentation and databases.
- Conducts and interprets basic and complex chemical analyses on water, wastewater, and environmental samples.
- Conducts analysis and completes performance tests to maintain laboratory state certifications.
- Participate in training on fundamental lab support policies, programs, and practices.
- Perform related duties as required.

Work experience requirements
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EQUIPMENT & OTHER:
- Basic principles of water treatment and wastewater collections.
- Basic mathematical principles.
- Safe work practices and policies.
- Knowledge of standard environmental laboratory principles, techniques, terminology, equipment and materials.
- Knowledge of basic analytical chemistry and biological concepts.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skill in performing standard algebraic and mathematical calculations.
- Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
- Familiarity with basic wastewater treatment processes.
- Familiarity of water sampling and testing techniques.
- Familiarity of federal and state regulatory standards.
- Familiarity with governmental policies and procedures.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:
- High School diploma or GED. An Associates degree with related coursework in chemistry, biological and/or environmental sciences is preferred.
- One year of related work experience in Water or Wastewater, and/or a Laboratory/Quality Control setting.
- Possession of a valid State driver's license.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid C.P.R. Certificate.
