Position Overview
Louisiana Central seeks a reliable, detailed‑oriented Financial Accounting Manager to oversee core accounting operations, financial compliance, and grant‑related reporting for a regional nonprofit organization with an operating budget under $4 million. This full‑time professional manages daily accounting activities, ensures compliance with federal and state nonprofit requirements, and maintains accurate, audit-ready financial records aligned with best practices recommended by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor.
The role requires strong collaboration with internal teams, outside contracted accounting firms, and external auditing agencies. The Financial Accounting Manager ensures timely processing, consistent record keeping, and up‑to‑date financial status across all accounts, programs, and grants.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Management and Accounting
- Accounting System Oversight: Maintain and manage the organization’s QuickBooks Online system, including chart of accounts, accounts payable and receivable, purchase orders, invoicing, and vendor management.
- Monthly Reconciliations: Complete bank, credit card, payroll, and restricted fund reconciliations.
- Financial Reporting: Produce monthly financial statements and dashboards for the Executive Leadership Team and the Executive Governance Board.
- Payroll Management: Oversee payroll entries, allocations, and payroll‑related reporting.
- Cash Flow Monitoring: Track cash flow and support budget monitoring across programs and departments.
- Record Keeping: Maintain timely, accurate, and organized financial records to ensure the organization remains current on the financial status of all accounts and programs.
- Grant and Project Accounting
- GAAP Application: Apply GAAP standards for all grant‑funded activities.
- Grant Tracking: Track grant revenue, expenditures, match requirements, and allowable costs.
- Grant Documentation: Maintain documentation for federal, state, and foundation grants.
- Grant Reporting: Prepare reimbursement requests and quarterly or annual financial reports for grantors.
- Audit Readiness: Support grant‑specific reviews and ensure audit‑ready documentation.
- Compliance and Reporting
- Nonprofit Compliance: Ensure adherence to federal and state nonprofit accounting requirements.
- Regulatory Filings: Support IRS Form 990 preparation, Louisiana charitable registration, annual reporting, and federal and state payroll tax filings.
- Internal Controls: Maintain internal controls aligned with Louisiana Legislative Auditor best practices.
- Annual Audit Preparation: Prepare schedules, documentation, and responses for external auditors.
- External Collaboration: Work closely with outside contracted accounting firms and auditing agencies to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely completion of all required reviews.
- Internal Processes and Controls
- Policy Development: Strengthen and maintain internal financial policies and procedures.
- Workflow Implementation: Implement best‑practice workflows for purchase orders, approvals, grant documentation, and expense tracking.
- Staff Guidance: Provide training and support to staff on financial processes, coding, and documentation requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA preferred but not required.
- Minimum five years of experience in nonprofit accounting or grant‑funded financial management.
- Demonstrated expertise with QuickBooks Online.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and grant compliance.
- Experience with federal and state tax filings for nonprofit organizations.
- Familiarity with Louisiana Legislative Auditor guidelines strongly preferred.
- Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and communicate clearly with leadership and staff.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
Contract Structure & Compensation
- Full‑time, exempt employee.
- Standard schedule of 40 hours per week with required availability for monthly closeout and periodic meetings.
- Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
