Full Job Description

Job Purpose: The Family Engagement Liaison is responsible for engaging and collaborating with the kin of children and families involved with child welfare. The goals are to identify and establish support systems and potential placement resources for vulnerable children and youth; as well as adhere to, maintain, and provide recommendations for processes/workflows, within audit worthy format and storage. The Family Engagement Liaison is responsible for information collection, family engagement, coordination, documentation, and dissemination of information to the client to support informed child welfare decision-making.

Responsibilities and Duties

Client Approval: Receiving approval and documenting in case files to proceed with kin contact.
Engagement and Outreach: Proactively reach out to birth parents, relatives and other kin of children involved in the child welfare system, to explore their capacity and willingness to support and/or provide placement for the child in addition to identifying additional kin resources.
Observations and Coordination - Conduct information gathering activities and document observations related to identified kinship resources utilizing CSI-approved tools and protocols. Relay the kin’s expressed interest, willingness, and ability to provide support or care for children and youth to the child welfare agency.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all interactions, observations, and collaborations. Provide regular reports to the CSI leadership team and in turn, the child welfare agency.
Reviewing Case Records: Review child welfare case records to gather comprehensive background information and understand the child’s needs, family history, and potential kinship resources.
Youth Involvement: Engage directly with youth throughout the family finding process to ensure their voices are heard and their preferences are considered.
Placement Support - Utilize CSI-approved tools such as Child Circle, Ecomaps, and Genograms to support family finding and network mapping efforts and identify potential kinship connections and supports in a trauma-informed manner.
Collaboration: Work closely with child welfare case workers, social workers, and other child welfare professionals to support a coordinated approach to family finding.
Relay Challenges – Document expressed kin challenges and barriers to the client
Overall Duties: Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by direct report and/or Executive Management.

Requirements

Pass Drug Test and Criminal Background Check
Insurable by CSI’s auto insurance company
Valid driver’s license

Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to build trusting relationships with families and professionals
Cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse family dynamics
A strong commitment to the well-being of children and their families
Alignment with diligent compliance to represent CSI’s core values, work environment and services for clients’ needs
Technology skills to utilize multiple software systems and resources
Understanding of the child welfare system, kinship care, with practice of high level of confidentiality of all persons and organizations
Strong organizational and documentation skills

Physical Environment/Demands

Ability to travel by car, commercial airlines and overnight stays out of town
Indomitable work ethic and the willingness to work additional hours as needed
Perform light work – exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
See, hear, talk and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and visual acuity; kneel, sit, stand, walk, crouch, stoop, reach, pull, push and other similar, repetitive tasks requiring physical activity
Able to operate standard office/computer equipment
Ensure a private, confidential, quiet work environment, always while performing CSI responsibilities

Education and Experience

Minimum Required: Bachelor’s degree preferred in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or related field preferred. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education requirements.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in child welfare, family services, or a related field. Experience working with kinship care or foster care is preferred.

Pay: $20.00 - $26.00 per hour
